Dear Members,
I hope this finds you all well.
I am sorry I have not been able to weigh in on several questions and inquiries about dissolution of Chama but I am in support and would like this matter concluded. Since we do not have minutes of the last meeting, my suggestion is that we discuss and conclude the dissolution on mail.
I was in attendance during the meeting that discussed it and I can confirm we had a quorum when we sat. As Luwero coordinator, this is my recollection of part of the discussions held;
1. Land: We resolved to sell the land to any member willing to buy at cost including the Pump, Irrigation kit, tanks, etc. Unless there was a non member willing to buy higher, this was our final suggestion on land.
2. Goats: The offer from local buyers who could purchase all the goats was a ridiculous UGX30,000= per goat! We were having difficulty maintaining the goats at the farm and hence had to either sell at that price or find an alternative solution. Members were asked to take responsibility of their goats individually either by selling them, slaughtering them or paying the herdsman and related costs (each member at the time had 2Goats and 1Kid). I offered to purchase the remaining goats and meanwhile pay the costs of maintenance until such a time as when I could remove the goats from the farm. By the time I took the goats, some members had offered their goats to me at no cost, others had slaughtered theirs while others maintained their stock.
The offer for purchase was not in cash but my individual member equity obtained from dissolution which I would be forfeiting in exchange for the goats that would be remaining. This would be shared among members whose goats would have remained.
3. Cash at bank: All expenditure was frozen effective the sitting. Monthly contributions were also suspended effective immediately.
4. Financial report: The last report that had been sent on mail regarding updated contributions and expenditure was available then and I assume that has not changed. The total refunds to members would be determined from that.
It is my sincere appeal that we all make an effort to send our discussions on this matter on mail, those who were in attendance ought to confirm, amend or deny what I have given as a recollection of the last meeting, and we all vote and conclude on mail. Save for that, then a general meeting has to be called or we forget all about chama and let be.
Thank you, wishing you the best deliberations.
Warm regards,
Bob
