The Java specification and Java code provided by Sun / Oracle, has GPL v2.

This license does not allow products created from GLP v2 can be sold.

You remember that in the past, Microsoft had the MSVM that came with IE which was quite different from SUNVM ... SUN to protect the Java also sued Microsoft.

In my opinion Oracle is correct.

Why instead of copying Java code and transform it in something different, Google didn't work to improve JavaME.

This is indicative of the writer not understanding the subject at hand mixing platform and language.  Because Android, the platform, is in fact, not Java, the platform.  I don't think anyone is claiming otherwise except for him.

Showing strong leadership and stewardship of the Java platform does not start with a suite.  Protecting the brand, maybe.  If Oracle wants to impress me, throw brains at Java 7.0 and get it out soon.  Hire engineers to  muscle up JavaFX to compete into the RIA space.  Make JME a viable competitor on smartphones (including Adroid-powered ones).  I will be convinced of Oracle future motives for Java after J1 (because apparently that's when they will tell the story).  Until then, I can only speculate.
