When connecting your external display to your Windows PC, you may encounter the "input signal out-of-range" error. This error is often triggered if you have a high-refresh monitor connected to a lower-end graphics device. Additionally, lack of support for higher display resolution on the monitor or graphics card is another common cause of this error.
One way to fix the "input signal out-of-range" error is to set the monitor resolution recommended by Windows. Often the error message shows the recommended display resolution making it easier to identify and configure the display settings. If not, Windows can auto-detect and recommend it in the Settings app.
To fix this error, try lowering your monitor refresh rate to the standard 60Hz. Once the error is resolved, you can fiddle with the refresh rate numbers to find a higher refresh rate configuration without the error.
Now that the error is resolved, open the Display adapter properties and slowly increase the refresh rate. Do this until you find a good balance between a higher monitor refresh rate and display adapter compatibility.
Incompatible or outdated graphics drivers may cause the connected display to malfunction. To fix the issue, install the latest drivers available for your graphics card. Explore our guide on how to update the graphics drivers on your Windows computer.
This error is a common occurrence on older systems with an outdated video card or older monitors with a lower refresh rate support. To fix the error, set the display resolution to the recommended and the refresh rate to the standard 60Hz. If the issue persists, install pending display driver updates to resolve the problem.
I am trying to connect my Legion Go to a LG C1 via HDMI using an Anker 556 USB-C hub (USB 4, HDMI 2.0 or 2.1). If I'm lucky I get an image on the TV that has random static-ish lines flashing through it, though this quickly devolves into the image cutting to a black screen, blinking on and off, until eventually I get a loss of signal message on the tv. Sometimes I get nothing. I think there is a correlation between the output somewhat working when the Legion Go battery is at 100% and it has less chance of working at under 98%.
I've tried connecting a different laptop to the hub/TV setup and it works perfectly. I've also connected the Legion GO/Hub to 2 different TVs and get the exact same result. I've tried lots of things, roll back BIOS, turn off power saving, etc. Nothing seems to make a difference.
I have tried switching to just display on external but I do not see a change in behaviour. I think the Anker 565 has HDMI2.0 so would be unable to do 4K120. I am mostly interested in a multiport dock but would like to know what Ugreen dongle you have working for comparison purposes.
So just to clarify, the j5create USBC Triple Monitor Dock JCD397 is the only one I have tried so far that works and continues to work after being connected for a while or unplugged and replugged, shutdown and restarted, or rebooted. Just works (so far). It only has HDMI2.0 though so it will only get up to 4k60. The C1 may be able to double up the frames, but that might introduce lag. I think the better way would be to downscale to 2k120 and maybe the C1 would double the resolution more easily.
No insult, I'm willing to double check anything at this point. The cable I'm using with the C1 came with my Xbox Series X, Ultra High Speed HDMI. Double checked C1 diagnostics for the signal from my Xbox using the cable and it's feeding 4k120 Freesync at 118+ frames. Does Dolby Vision, HDR, the whole lot. The cable I used with the new cheap external LG monitor was the one that came with it. The monitor is only 4k60 so shouldn't be much of an issue there.
BenMyers Is there any way to get Lenovo support/engineering to weigh in on this? If this is not a supported feature I'd like to know so that I can stop trying although it may be too late to return my Legion Go. I put in a support request to Lenovo support but never heard back. Thanks
I went through my Kensington docking station to get the 4K 120Hz to work for me. I do not have an USBC to HDMI adapter that is HDMI 2.1 compliant. I am strongly considering getting one in the next couple of days to go through this struggle with you, and figure this thing out. Anyways it would be a good adapter to have.
I am using some AXAGON replicator with PD and HDMI and I plug in a DELL U3014 2540x1200 monitor through HDMI. Apart from the scaling resulting in a slightly blurry screen, the monitor loses signal connection when switching between specific applications (certain game desktop). I think there will be some furutre driver update to fix these issues. Apart from that, the monitor works displays content fine.
For what it's worth, I was able to FINALLY get 4k120hz on my LG C2 by using the Cable Matters USB-C to HDMI adapter, a FIBBR brand optical HDMI cable, and the Lenovo Legion Go's internal APU. I had to update the firmware on the Cable Matters adapter and have the input labeled as PC in the LG, but the key was going into AMD Adrenaline software and choosing 10bpc YCbCr 4:2:2. That was the best I was able to get.
The problem is docks/cables that are defaulting to 444 incorrectly when the Legion Go can not display it at 4K120 (or the hubs/cables have a related underlying compatibility/bandwidth issue). I did finally get a dock that worked at 422, the latest JSAUX dock which can support the highest thoroughput so that leaves me to believe the Legion Go can not do higher then this.
Trying to connect an hp monitor to my Lenovo windows 7 computer. The monitor was my son's and he had it connected to an hp computer that had been upgraded to windows 10. I'm getting an "input signal out of range" error and am advised to change settings to 1600x900-60Hz. It is currently H=68.6 V=85Hz. Where do I change these settings? Previously I've just connected any monitor to a computer with no problem. Is it the difference in the windows version? Thanks for any help.
The model is S2031. The highest the range slider goes is 1280x1024. The monitor cuts off pretty quickly when trying to adjust any settings and there's a large pop-up in the center of the screen saying settings are wrong and I can't move it.
@merryld It's highly possible the monitor in use does not support the resolution you prefer, does it work fine on lower resolutions? If it doesn't, and if the cable in use is HDMI: click here to troubleshoot, if that's been done and yet it doesn't work, on you have other type of video cable connection, try the below steps:
Disconnect the display power cable, wait about 30 seconds, reconnect the cable and then turn on the display. This resets the electronics on the display. Make sure the display has power and the power light comes on when the power button is pressed. If the light on the display remains off, the display is not receiving power from either the wall outlet or the power adapter.
At first setup, or under certain signal conditions, the display might not be able to switch to a new display resolution. Do not shut down or restart the computer. Instead, perform the following steps:
If a message is displayed, the display panel is working and the problem is related to the video signal. For further troubleshooting steps, see HP support document, Flat Panel Monitor Displays Message about No Signal, Signal out of Range, Sleep, or Power Save.
Some displays do not have on-screen messages but instead use the lights to indicate no signal. When you disconnect the cable, instead of an on-screen message, the light turns amber, indicating that the display lost signal and is working properly, but is out of range, or not receiving the signal.
Restart the computer, and while it is restarting, press F8 until the Startup menu appears. Press 3, and then press ENTER to start the computer in Safe mode. Right-click the desktop, click Properties, and then click Settings. Click Advanced, click Adapter, and then click Adapter Default from the Refresh Rate list. official site
I've tried just about everything suggested but the resolution is still not right. I don't understand why connecting a monitor to a desktop is this difficult. Is the message (input signal out of range, reset to 1600x900-60Hz) coming from the computer or from the monitor? Is the problem because the monitor is an HP and computer is Lenovo? In trying the different suggestions I've somehow (don't know how), got the setting to be 1024x768 and I can view desktop without monitor turning off now but the icons are stretched and don't appear correct. It's not a HDMI cable. The computer worked fine with a Dell monitor and didn't require any adjustments. I would really appreciate some insight as to what it is I'm trying to do to correct the issue. Thanks for any guidance.
