Could Come This Month," in "The Record," July 6, 2012, at p. A-3.

Politicizing the judiciary has always meant undermining the integrity
of the rule of law.

N.J. has traditionally been perceived as a "judicially liberal" state,
then as a jurisdiction lost to corruption where ideology means far
less than connections (or money) in terms of getting on the bench in
the first place, or to remain in the judiciary.

New Jersey's Supreme Court has gone from being an example of creative
decision-making to a cautionary tale of the effects of corruption on
the judicial process: Reflecting on his experiences in selecting
judicial nominees, Mr. Christie opted for legal talent from outside
the Democrat machine's cesspool. Opposition to Christie's nominees is
about power-politics at the expense of judicial independence.

The result of these "shenanigans" has been a failure to get the
governor's nominees approved by an ideological Senate and Assembly in
Trenton controlled by Democrats. No legal system can protect its
integrity this way. Instead, Stuart Rabner-like flunkies serving the
will of bosses will fill the judicial bench with mediocrities who are
easily intimidated. The law and New Jersey's people will suffer:

Mr. Christie railed against "Senate Democrats who rejected his two
previous nominees. ... 'It's the single most discouraging thing that's
happened to me since I became governor,' said Christie, saying their
losses [resulted from] 'the politics of personal destruction' at the
hands of 'radical liberal Democrats' on the judiciary committee. ..."

The words "judicial independence" in New Jersey produce laughter among
lawyers, that is, if they are honest. Who is it that everybody is so
afraid of in Trenton -- Norcross, Sweeney, Codey, Menendez, or the
mafia? All of the above?

" ... 'It wasn't just that they wanted to vote no. They wanted to
destroy Phil Kwon and Bruce Harris,' he said."

Anybody the mob can't control, they try to destroy. Maybe this
explains many of my troubles. I am old fashioned enough to remember
when organized crime was afraid of the police and judges. In New
Jersey organized crime IS the police and judges. ("Mafia Influence in
New Jersey Courts and Politics" and "More Mafia Members Arrested in
New Jersey.")

The politics of personal destruction and use of the legal ethics
establishment to go after political enemies is something I know well.
Did Menendez contact the OAE to go after me, John McGill, Esq.? ("New
Jersey's 'Ethical' Legal System" and "Does Senator Menenedez have
mafia friends?" then "Jennifer Velez is a Dyke Magnet!" and "Is
Menendez For Sale?" finally "New Jersey's Office of Attorney Ethics.")
