J.D. Lasica developing proposal for regional civic-social media workshops

Journalism That Matters alum J.D. Lasica, founder of OurMedia.org and author of the book, "DarkNet: Hollywood's War Against the Digital Generation" is advancing a funding request for a nationwide series of educational bootcamps focused on increasing civic engagement through social media. The effort is undergirded by an online community of social media mentors and a resource center for social media, online curricula and peer-to-peer learning. If y'all haven't taken a look at JD's proposal yet--definitely do it! The "Innovation Camps" that he's suggesting are a great way of getting info out to groups across many geographic areas in a very cost effective manner. Keeping costs low increases the ability of many people to participate and to learn!

And there are many different people in a variety of regions and across disciplines of tech and marketing who can add to an "Innovation Camp" event and would probably be very glad to be involved. The concern for more civic media really does extend beyond the journalism community (at least that's what I've seen.)
