Greetings all:

FCC seeking response and public comment to 42-question survey on the future of media - deadline extended

The original public notice and extension deadline for comments (extended to May 7, 2010) is posted at: http://reboot.fcc.gov/futureofmedia/blog?category=Public%20Notices

Questions include:

“What roles should libraries and schools play in supporting community information flow?  (no. 5)”

What kinds of digital and media information literacy programs are appropriate to help people both use new information and communication technologies effectively and to analyze and evaluate the news and information they are receiving? (no. 38)

Whether or not you choose to respond, there are some poignant questions to at least think about that are in the first few, such as:

“What are the information needs of citizens and communities? (no. 1)”

There are some questions on traditional media pertaining to staffing levels and coverage priorities as well.

‘This project seeks to “review the state of traditional sources of news and journalism, and new models for providing information to consumers and communities… The goal: to help ensure that all Americans have access to vibrant, diverse sources of news and information that will enable them to enrich their families, communities, and democracy.”
