BOOK: JTM alumna authors book about cognition and communities

I got an email today from Sue Ellen isacksen (Christian) at Western
Michigan University, a multi-JTM event alumna. She's just published a book
that could help journalists become more sensitive to their communities,
and tell more relevant stories.

The book is entitled: "Overcoming Bias: A
Journalist's Guide to Culture and Context."

The book examines what the mind naturally pays attention to (and what it
misses), how it categorizes information, how culture affects our thinking,
how it makes decisions (not too well, unfortunately...), how journalists
can use best practices to help avoid distortions in their thinking, and
specific ways to make the journalism we do more accurate. Sue Ellen has
included examples and interviews from working journalists, from the NYT to
The Root to public radio to digital freelancers. The book blog is:
