Dear Doris,

Thank you so much for your hospitality to open your home for us!! We had another joyous, wonderful reunion and delicious food with all buddies! And with your happy family too! It's beyond words how I admire your parents' works and their happy lifestyles.

Attached are two pictures from my camera. The葱was taken for you to give it to Kevin Hu, who missed the formal ceremony of 你送葱给他。Hope he'll start to like the bunch of 葱 because it represents us for how we missed him, his humor and his camera this year at your home.

Thanks a million again!

The concept is 'potluck' or 'pot lot' --  bring whatever (e.g. a hometown dish? fruits, salad? We are very casual, maybe I will have a jar for free-will money contribution for those who don't have time).  I will provide the meats, buns, vegatables for grilling, soda, water, ice, and paper goods, if you want beer, do bring your own.  See ya Saturday!

Hi, Doris:

Thanks for putting this together.  Do you know who will be bringing what dishes?  If no one else is doing it, we will be bringing a Pad Thai.

Thanks.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for initiating the gathering. I will be more than happy to attend. I would suggest Japanese Koki Buffet in Kennilworth, right next to Merck's big gate. It has a party room too that we can reserve. The price is $9.99 for lunch for Mon.-Thurs., but 16 is a holiday, it may be $14.99 something. I feel the food is very good to me with reasonable prices too, depending on lunch or dinner, weekdays or weekend. The highest is $17.99 as I remember.

Or you guys can choose another one. I have no problem to go whichever.

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I think it is too late for planning for this weekend (16th). May be there are people planned for enjoying the long weekend with their family on the ski slope. If we want to gather together, how about we pick another weekend to 庆祝春节和元宵?
Happy Chinese New Year to you and your families.

Yes, I agree it’s too late for this weekend.  I didn’t mean for us to target this weekend.  It can be any weekend we can all do this month or even first week of Feb.

Happy Year of the Dragon!

Happy New Year of the Dragon to all!  Yes, sorry we're not in NJ for Chinese New Year, but we're not sorry for the warmer FL weather.  Other than slowing down, and my Mom having a torn ligament in her right knee (she fell and is doing physical therapy) my parents are doing fine (considering that they turn 89 and 90 in 2012).
Perhaps we could pencil in Saturday July 7 for the third cookout, Lord willing, at our home again in Kingston?

Dear Doris,

Happy New Year and Happy Chinese New Year to you too! It's so nice to hear from you!!! I will be more than happy to see you again this summer when you are back at your beautiful, lovely home!
Hope your parents are doing well and we will be sure to see them in the summer again!

For Chinese New Year, I definitely will be more than happy to attend the jstxh party if possible. However, many of us have family members and good friends too. So, it's hard to decide not to go to the one that is the most important and precious. My priorities in my plan is to:

1) spend time with my daughter, who works in NYC, if she comes back home for Chinese New Year. However, it's a "who knows" situation now since she is an assistant manager in a branch for an American company, so she may be required to work on weekend because she has been required to do so a lot.

2) (if option 1 is not feasible,) go to Pennsylvania to meet my three best friends of my graduate school. More than 20 years ago we spent precious time together in the dorm of the college in Pennsylvania. One will fly to PA specially from Texas. I haven't met the best friend of the three for at least 7 or 8 years, the 2nd one at least 15 years, and the 3rd one from Texas, at least 18 years. So, it's a precious opportunity.

3) attend jstxh party if any.

Hope jstxh still host one, so people will have an opportunity to have fun.

Wishing all a happy Chinese New Year!

Rebecca (Bingqing)

I think that we are the least active Tongxianghui. I really hope that every one is more active in the new year. If we put JSTXH at the bottom and only think about it only when nothing else in our mind, then it will have no chance.

While I am always open-minded, it is still too much to celebrate our Chinese New Year in some Japanese restaurant as JSTXH. Please find some buffet with Karaoke or other entertainments. Every adult attendee pays about 20-30 dollars so that we may have some prizes for kids.

Everyone is the master of JSTXH and never has the waiting attitude so that we can show JS ren can also build up our TX community.

Wish you and your families the best!

Shaoping

Hi, Mike:

That’s a good idea to have the event at night because we all have to eat dinner anyway.  I suggest we use the time to take care of some business like:

- Purpose of the organization

- Proposed event topics and times

- Organizing committee

- Membership fees

Etc.

I can’t think of any other places with Karaoke facility without a fee.  So Fuji sounds good.

I hope it works this time.

Happy New Year to you too.

Lora

Thank you for your suggestions. Yes, we need to think about to establish the organization seriously. At last BBQ party, Mr. Hu (zhiyu) suggested that we can set it up as a non-profit 503b organization. He would be happy to provide the help. I'd like to ask all members starting the brain storm of all topics Lora provided. We can discuss them at the gathering party.
Please let me any more suggestions. If there is no objection, I am going to contact Fuji and reserve the room/s.
Thanks,
Mike

What is the meaning of life? Absolutely none! Without or with life on the earth, the planet goes around the sun.

However, that does not mean we can not enjoy life.

As for the benefits as a registered JSTXH, it is up to your expectation and perception. From my point view, an organized JSTXH will bring us closer and give us a formal platform to share and support. In China or US, no one cares about individual unless you are Yao Ming. While life has no meaning, it certainly has interests. An organized group is a force for our common interests and welfares. We may have our periodic journal to exchange, reflect and comment. Doris's parents have very rich life experiences which are wealth for all of us.

We will dig/find more when the time passes. However, meeting Laoxiang here is more than enough we ask for. What are the benefits in your mind?

I think we are people; people need social activities; social activities need people to organize; organize social activities need people to be socially together; being socially together reduce the potential to slip into or avoid Parkingson's disease or Alzheimer; in my opinion, therefore, that's the benefit.

Mike and everyone:

Happy Chinese New Yr to you all.

I would help you to set up the non-profit org.  the main issue is that it requires people to maintain it and follow up from time to time,  like operating a company.  accounting and expenses;  if nobody will donate money to the org that wouldrequire tax exempt treatment,  there will be no benefits,  instead it will have cost.  who will pay for it?  if not maintaining,  it will die in two years.  please think about it.  not to mention lawyer fee,  the actual cost could be around $1000. to set up the non-profit company and get it registered with IRS.

ZhiYu,
Thanks for your efforts.

All,
I suggest to just hold 2 items and resume them when our org ready.
1 -- non-profit org
2 -- Membership fee (donations/contributions should be welcomed).

I am leading 3 associations, and involve a lot Chinese community events, I I experienced such issues all the time).

Let try hard to promote our JXTXH at any social opportunities, including facebook, LinkedIn, etc ,make it growing faster and stronger and seeking ways to ask donations/sponsorship for our events.

Quarterly gathering could be an option to show off and call new prople.

Happy New Year again (初四).

Thank you.

Dear all:
Let us discuss what should we do for next  step in the party. I have reserved a room at Fuji on Feb 4th from 5 to 10PM. It has the Karaoke set and can fit up to 70 people. The minimum requirement is 30 to hold the room.
Let me know if you are going to attend the party and # people.
Lora: Can you please write a good invitation for NJCCP and other organization?
Thanks,
Mike

I think that we are the least active Tongxianghui. I really hope that every one is more active in the new year. If we put JSTXH at the bottom and only think about it only when nothing else in our mind, then it will have no chance.

A Sunday lunch is better, so people in NYC can come, like Harry (Liu). I am sure he won't come for the night party.

Driving is easier day time, and a lunch gets us to the end of the lunch time, pretty much to 4 p.m. Peaple who have kids feel better to stay. Night time, they don't stay.

Then both Mike and Kevin have no excuses not coming.

Mike and All,

It is great to have met you at the BBQ party.

I have compiled the contact information. Please check to make sure the accuracy and let me know if there are errors. I have sent the invitation and please kindly reply to join the group if you are still not a member.

By the way, I suggest that we voluntarily donate $20-50 to set up JSTXH as a nonprofit organization (All the graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are exempted.) with help from Zhiyu. We may use jstxh.us as our web address (jstxh.org has been taken while jstxh.com is still available.). Please give your input.
