Hi, All:

You have confirmed to join us for the summer cookout/potluck on August 11, at Doris Ju’s home.  It will be a smaller crowd (23 people) this year but will be cozy so that we get to know each other more.  Plus,  there will be some art presentation to commemorate Doris’ late father.  So there is plenty of things to enjoy and talk about.

Just a reminder, please bring some dishes, snacks, fruit or drinks.  I suggest one dish for one person.  So if you were to bring two people, please bring two dishes, or a dish plus something else.  If you were to change plans, or add more people, please let Doris and me know asap.

Here are the details again:

Time:     Aug 11, Saturday, 4-8pm

Place:    35 Sycamore Place, Kingston, NJ (ZIP is Princeton, NJ 08540)

The house is on a cul-de-sac at the end of Sycamore Place.  Technically there is no parking on the circle except for the driveway which fits four cars.  Others may park on the street along Sycamore Place.

Doris Ju’s cell phone is (917) 520-8653

I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

Best regards,

Lora Feng

Lora: Thank you for stepping in to take the lead yesterday (in the absence of Mike Yao who took the lead albeit also informally the two previous summers).  Today our new Jiangsu friend Frances called me to thank me and tell me how glad she was to have joined us, and expressed ideas for the next meeting(s). Lora, I am sure you will be adding the new emails you collected at the gathering to the JSTXH group distribution, but I told Frances today I will email you and Shaoping to add her to the JSTXH disbribution right away so she can express her ideas to the whole group.  Shaoping, I assume you are in-charge of that?
I explained to Frances that I will not be able to do any more than hosting a cookout each year, but if the JSTXH organizes other meetings, and my mother and I are in NJ, certainly I can bring my mom to attend.  Also, as you know my motivation to support the JSTXH has been my Dad who was from Jiangyin, who dedicated himself to the spread of Chinese art and literature, and I have some regret that I did not dedicate myself to the same goal while he was alive (you realized, I being still on the NJCCPS distribution meant I was at one time a computer professional. It was only after my involuntary retirement from BMS 2005 that I tried to re-bond with my parents and my cultural roots).  Joseph Liu who started the whole idea in June of 2010 with a telephone conference now suggests joining forces with Shanghainese tongxiang, again I am not in any position to take that initiative.  Well, I will continue to be supportive in honor of my Dad.

Dear Doris,

Thank you and your family so much for hosting the cookout, another wonderful summer memory! As an attendee of the summer cookout for consecutive three years, this time I truly missed your dear father, prof. Ju, who was an unforgettable storyteller, with whom we had more laughters and joyful time when he was talking about his experiences and art works.

We really enjoyed the demonstration of the Chinese water color paintings your father's American student did (sorry, forgot her name) at the cookout. She is marvelous!

Thank Lora for her effort in co-hosting the event, and also thank Lora's husband for the BBQ work on the grill.

And I enjoyed the time with all of the 江苏同乡 there, too.
