buffer for uneven offsets

I have a polygon that I need some of its sides scaled by different amounts.  I have the sets of points that I need scaled differently, which are a subset of the polygon's points.

Any idea how to do this?  I've been looking through the code and I see that "buffers" around lines and points are created, so I'm hoping there's a way to change the code to create the buffers differently for the various points in the subsets in the polygon.
