A new data explorer for JSON-stat has been released: the JSON-stat WebMCP Explorer. The defining feature of this viewer is its support for the emerging WebMCP standard (currently under development).

What sets this viewer apart from others is that, alongside the standard web UI, it features a natural language interface. The JSON-stat WebMCP Explorer exposes 12 tools that allow users to perform every single action available in the web UI. Both interfaces are fully synchronized, enabling a hybrid interaction (for instance, you can start using the web UI and then seamlessly switch to natural language, or vice versa).

An extreme case is using the natural language interface exclusively. This is exactly what happens with the following prompt:

Load dataset https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/api/dissemination/statistics/1.0/data/lfsi_emp_a?lang=en&lastTimePeriod=3&indic_em=ACT&age=Y15-64&unit=THS_PER and select the data for Germany and Ireland and the last period available. Display a cross-tabulation with sex as rows and countries as columns and download a CSV file with this info.

The video below is a screencast showing the execution of the prompt above:

To use the natural language interface, the following requirements must be met:

  • An updated version of Chrome with the WebMCP for testing flag enabled.
  • The WebMCP - Model Context Tool Inspector extension installed.
  • A Gemini API key (a free but limited one can be obtained at Google AI Studio).

JSON-stat WebMCP Explorer is also featured in the Awesome WebMCP List by Chrome Labs.
