What should I pass in the socket variable ?

I'm reading the documentation on vscode-ws-jsonrpc 

and Im a little confused about what should go in this socket variable :

const socket: rpc.IWebSocket; // open the web socket

how do I open the web socket?

I would be thankful if someone knows how to help!
