I am a little behind in providing this update; it has been a busy
week. I had another blood check and doctor appointment on Monday the
5th. I had expected to push back on the doctor for another week
without treatment as I anticipated that he was going to want me to
start treatment 6 on the 5th. Unfortunately, my white blood count and
dropped yet again to around 2,500. This was very surprising since it
had reached about 5,000 earlier in the recovery. My platelets had
risen to 85,000, which is better but still half what they need to be.
The doctor said it was not unexpected to see the slow return and that
he would only be concerned if we were out in week six or seven with
low counts.
Tuesday I had a full day of work lined up, a regular full day. It was
a bit too much as I had a hard night’s sleep. I did, however notice
as I wrapped up my day that I had another case of shingles coming on.
I cancelled all of my appointments for Wednesday and scheduled an
appointment with Dr. Needles. He confirmed the fact that it is
shingles and put me on a 7 day treatment and another prescription that
I will continue to take for the duration of the treatment to prevent
any further return of shingles.
So far the current breakout of shingles is fairly minor. I can’t tell
if it is because it was caught early or if the second round is just
lighter. Regardless, it looks that my treatment will be delayed
another week or two. It is possible it could be delayed even more
than two weeks, but hopefully not. This does, however, allow me to
pursue further work opportunities and to get moving on my taxes.
I will post again once I know when I will be returning to the
hospital. For now, I am going to see if I can’t build a little
strength and enjoy the wonderful spring weather. I do appreciate the
timing that God has provided on everything.
I appreciate all of the wonderful support everyone continues to
provide. Please say a prayer for my Mother for her to get all that
she needs from the retreat she is attending this weekend. She has
done so much to keep everything going while I am going through all of
this. I too will pray for all of you in my Mass intentions.

Hang in there John. I'm on my way to Indiana with the National Guard. If you need anything please call Mona. I have no doubt that God will see to your moms needs but will be praying for both of you while I'm gone. I'll be back on the 26th.

Wow, John, if it's not one thing, it's another! Life for you is certainly never dull!!
Anyway, sorry to hear about the bout with shingles again. Hoping that the medication will take of this for you.
Please be sure to let John and me know when you go back into the hospital so we can pay you another visit. I know you don't mind seeing us because we bring ice cream!! :-)
