What a strong week it has been. It began with an appointment with Dr.
Needles (yes that is his real name) on Monday. He had intended to put
me back in the hospital on Monday for my 5th treatment. I don’t think
he remembered that my PET scan was scheduled for today, but we never
progressed that far as I was fighting a cold so he could not put me in
for treatment. He did, however, wag his finger at me and prescribe a
“Z-pack” for me.
I am happy I had the extra week, as last week was very strained and
this week I felt a lot more normal. Today I had the PET scan to
evaluate the tumor and cancer cells. The PET scan is a full body scan
after they inject a radioactive sugar solution that highlights cancer
cells. The tumor has been reduced to 2cm and did not show any active
cancer cells. The four treatments have all but eliminated the tumor
and the cancer cells.
The doctor did explain that he is not treating the tumor but the
cancer and the treatment must continue to ensure that there are no
cancer cells that can make it into the bone marrow. He is still
expecting to give me four more treatments for a total of eight. I
will return for my fifth treatment on Monday the 6th of February.
This is the lighter of the two treatments and I will no longer need to
have the spinal tap, so that is a great plus.
The news has been great, though I would still like to avoid four more
treatments, I will just have to get through the next two and hope for
the best. I have been improving on some fronts and I am hoping that
my recoveries will go better yet.
Thank you for all of the wonderful prayers, they have certainly paid
off and I appreciate the continued support as I head into the second
half of this adventure. I must say that the PET scan did answer my
prayers for everything to be gone. I will send another update once I
get through this next hospital stay. Please feel free to visit at any
time, there are no restrictions on visiting hours and you are always
welcome. I will be at Mercy hospital (old St. John’s Mercy) on the
7th floor (blue section) starting Monday. I will be there at least 4
days and more likely 6-7 days.
