Is the direct quote taken out of context from Obama that is the top story passed around Fox News today implying that Obama claims small business owners do not deserve any credit for their own success. But Obama's actual remarks show that he attributed the success of small businesses to both the individual drive of small business owners, and to the benefit provided by influences such as great teachers, and government-created infrastructure. He was arguing that while small business owners' individual talents and drive allow them to attain their own portion of the American dream, credit for such attainment is not theirs alone.

Here's the full transcript of Obama's earlier remarks today. Fox News fails to ever mention anything else of which Obama said:

OBAMA: Look, if you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own.  You didn't get there on your own.  I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart.  There are a lot of smart people out there.  It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.  Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help.  There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.  Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.  Somebody invested in roads and bridges.  If you've got a business -- you didn't build that.  Somebody else made that happen.  The Internet didn't get invented on its own.  Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.  There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don't do on our own.  I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service.  That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together.  That's how we funded the GI Bill.  That's how we created the middle class.  That's how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam.  That's how we invented the Internet.  That's how we sent a man to the moon.  We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that's the reason I'm running for President -- because I still believe in that idea.  You're not on your own, we're in this together.

As far as Obama not doing anything for the small businesses. Obama introduced a bill earlier this year that would have cost about $28 billion, aimed to give businesses a 10 percent tax break worth up to $500,000 for any new payroll added this year. It also would have extended a 100 percent bonus depreciation, allowing companies to write off investments in expansions and new machinery. A nonpartisan analysis estimated that even though it was cheaper than Cantor's version, this bill would have created five times as many jobs, or nearly 1 million.

Even though Republicans claim they've never seen a tax cut they didn't like, they called the Obama's Small Business Tax Cut Bill a political stunt and obstructed it from passing. They also complained that they were not allowed to bring up any amendments. Although the majority Democrats all voted for the bill it failed to pass the 60 vote requirement to break a filibuster. This may leave small businesses high and dry for now, but it has come on the backdrop of an even larger battle over extending the Bush-era tax cuts, which Obama has called on Congress to extend the cuts -- which expire at the end of the year -- for income up to $250,000.

Obama, the ignorant fool.  I started another biz three months ago.  It was my idea and i built it from the ground up.  In the first month made a net profit of approx. $1500.  And yet it has grown.  And now I have one part-time 'self employed' worker.  Yet every day the gov't presents itself as an obstacle to my business.  They simply get in my way and slow me down.  The silver lining being that the gov't helps to limit my competition.

And im sure you didn't use any Government funded, inspected, or regulated products? How about roads, do you use transportation at all in your tiny start up? Gasoline? any Petrolium based products used? Does your self employed worker or your self use vehicles? Do you use your property in your biz?...the list goes on and on.

What a moron....Brent, unless you make caves on Mars and get there using alien technology, you are US govt. funded in one way shape or form, which is what Obama was talking about. Take away the spin and you can't win this argument.

The gov't has gotten a lot more out of me in taxes and fees than they've provided in services & roads.  But keep dreaming that gov't is the answer...cause the smackdown is coming in November!  And it will be Reaganesque!

I don't think you answered the questions tho....you did use all that stuff right?

I am not saying anything about "govt being the answer" or talking about smackdowns that will never happen, or talking about ratios of input vs. output of fees or whatever tangent your trying to spin...I'm simply stating that Obama's statements ring true in your tiny start up. Can you answer the question or not?

Dead as Reagan?

You don't even believe that, Brent. You've stated again and again that you won't vote for Romney. Do you think you're the only Christian who's got his panties in a twist because Mitt wears magic underwear? Do you imagine you're the only economic conservative who dislikes Mitt for creating Romneycare and being associated with Massachusettes? I've never seen less enthusiasm for a candidate.

And if you hadn't noticed, he's doing nothing but playing defense.

I'm sure Brent created a "Brenternet" that allows him to communicate without using anything the govt. has provided. And he never drives on pavement if he can help it. Delivers all his own mail. Also fights his own wars and patrols his own streets at night. Government never did nutin for Brent!

Somehow, while "playing defense" Mitt raised $3.6 MILLION the other day in Louisiana and Mississippi.  Apparently Obummer, with a little help from the Supremes, convinced the far right to join up with RMoney.

Yeah, $3.6 million from one person. And then Mitt laughed, "that's all you got? Heck, I got 25 times that in a single Cayman Islands account. Look, if you eight donors are going to take me seriously then Obama is surely going to win!"

Pay attention, Skippy.  We're not talking about elections of the past, but the current election.  Of the frontunners to be votrd on in 2012, only one has offshote tax havens.  Which one are you going to vote for?

Oh quit your crying. Is your vagina hurting again? Offshore accounts are totally legal. Nobody said they weren't. That's not the point Mr. ADD. We actually know more about whatever Gore, Kerry & Pelosi have offshore, if anything at all, because they've actually released more than 2 years of tax records, but nobody's bothered because that is neither here nor there. The difference between Gore, Kerry & Pelosi and Mittens is that Gore, Kerry & Pelosi actually ARE concerned about the very poor. RMoney likes his money like he likes his jobs, outsourced and non-American.

Uh oh, bitterness showing again...stop defending the magic underwear guy u aren't voting for Bitter Man.

Tax havens for RMoney are hand over fist HUGE, and not surprising from a guy who's party hates taxes. But I assume you got some figures that dwarf RMoney's offshore accounts compared to Gore and Kerry....never mind, probably just another Hannity spin.

Prediction: brent will offer no proof that RMoney has less untaxed wealth than Gore or Kerry.

Anyone notice that Obama has picked up 41 projected electoral votes in past few weeks? He is at 281 now and needs only 270.
Do I hear Carl Rove scrambling?

The hilarious part of Brent's "who cares" statement is this is coming from the guy who bashes Obama whenever he takes just one step outside America's borders because it's automatically bad if you spend any amount of time outside America. But at the same time, it's okay for Mitt Romney's money to be "stocked away" in foreign banks. That's fine. And then he can benefit from tax loop holes that were meant to encourage foreign investment into the United States, which clearly indicates he really really wishes he could be foreigner and not American. Because.. uh... the... eek....ack...brain hurting....

My favorite part of the whole argument is Mitt Romney claims he "didn't gain anything" by having his money in Swiss bank accounts and in the Caymon Islands because apparently his money just likes to go skiing and hang out on the beach drinking margaritas. Here's the thing, if there's no benefit from having your money in a Swiss bank account and in the Caymon Islands, why the fuck is it there? Put it in a federal credit union or a state credit union. If there's no benefit from having it offshore then it's just a dumb business practice to keep it somewhere not insured by the FDIC. If you want to get into politics then it's incredibly dumb to keep your money offshore where you claim there "is no benefit" for it being there. He's only been running for president for four fricking years, you'd think he would have handled this by now!? As conservative columnist George Will says "I do not know why given that Mr. Romney knew the day that McCain lost in 2008 that he was going to run for president again, that he didn`t get all of this out and tidy up some of this offshore accounts and all of the rest."

Mittens just isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and allowing himself to get booed on national TV in front of the NAACP just proves he's not ready for prime time. Even his next line of desperation for why he still hasn't gotten rid of his offshore accounts is because "all my investments are managed in a blind trust. By virtue of that, the decisions made by the trustee are decisions that determine where the investments are." So, just I'm clear, you're running for president because of your business management skills and your financial expertise, yet you claim you had nothing to do with the business you ran and have no idea how your finances are managed? Ow!!! ..... my brain is hurting..... Basically, the reason Mittens still keeps his money offshore is it`s in a blind trust and it`s totally out of his control and not his decision, which might pass for an answer if he hadn't directly said on record while running against Ted Kennedy for Senate in MA:

ROMNEY: The blind trust is an age old ruse, if you will, which is to say you can always tell the blind trust what it can and cannot do. You give a blind trust rules.

So there you have it, according to Romney eight years ago, the blind trust is old ruge. You get some rules. How about a no offshore account rule? No? No comment on that? Moron.

But, that's not all! From the tax returns we have received from Romney there's the issue of his IRA, his individual retirement account. This is a thing that lots of people have. It`s a method of putting money away that avoids it being taxed and the idea is that you`re saving that money for your retirement, an individual retirement account. But because it is a way of avoiding taxation, there`s a limit to how much you can put in one of these accounts. Typically, you can not put more than $6,000 a year into a traditional IRA -- $6,000 per year. Mitt Romney`s IRA has as much as $100 million in it. Holy Shit! Is Mitt Romney over 17,000 years old!?

I'm sure there is "some" explanation for this, but unfortunately everytime Romney gives an explanation he just keeps digging this hole deeper and deeper while Obama keeps collecting more and more electorals. And we thought 2008 was a GOP massacre.

Let's see if I can do a through daily list of everything you have "gotten a lot more of" out of the government than what you pay in taxes.

  • When you took a shower this morning, the shampoo didn't burn your eyes & leave you blind.
  • When you made breakfast, you were able to open the refrigerator and be reasonably assured that nothing you pull out & eat will sicken or kill you.
  • The water from your tap didn't spontaneously combust.
  • On your daily commute, stoplights allowed for reasonable flow of traffic, preventing a chaotic mad dash of vehicles clogging the roads.
  • The air you breathed throughout the day was clean and didn't give you asthma.
  • The streets are free of roaming packs of bored and restless kids engaging in criminal behavior, as they are instead enrolled in public schools.
  • The store where you purchase your paper and the coffee shop where you get your coffee is able to guarantee the products that it sells you due to a massive, complicated infrastructure of delivery and commerce, all for your less than five dollar purchase.
  • As you mail bill payments and add a stamp to your envelope, you can rest assured that your payment will arrive in a timely manner on the other side of the country for roughly thirty cents.

And this list is hardly thorough.  I'm sure more could be added.

The point is that, on its face value, your contention that "the government has gotten more out of you in taxes and fees than what they've provided" is, simply, laughable.
