Great program, but it is kicking my butt on one thing.  I can't seem to figure out how to set the dept of cut for a 'Vpocket' operation. I've tried all the usual things, but no matter what I change, the pocket comes out to be .51 deep.

I'm using Inkscape for the initial paths but I am using Gcodetools extension to create my default workspace.  Current depth setting in Gcodetools "orentation points" is .019.

Admittedly I don't really understand everything that is going on in JScut when you select Vpocket, but it seems to give me just what I want except for the depth of cut.

JScut pass depth is set to .125 ,material thickness is set to .2,  and I have tried other settings there to no avail.

Any and all help gratefully appreciated.

Here's a cutaway sketch of what V Pocket does:

Here's what I planned to eventually implement, but never got around to:

V Pocket tries to fit a single V channel into your shape; the shape and cutter angle control its depth. Nothing else does right now.

Thanks for that information Todd.  I really appreciate the work you did on this.  If I were to change the cutter angle to something greater than 60 would that have any effect on the depth?

Greater cutter angles reduce the depth, but if the cutter you use on your CNC machine doesn't match the angle, it will produce a distorted outline.

:) Oh well, so much for that idea.  I'll keep checking in to look for new features.

Just to make sure that I'm understanding completely, if I have a .250 piece of wood and I want to cut a vpocket with a 60 deg bit I'm going to cut through it by an additional .250.  I hope I'm missing something here, but that is what I'm understanding. I think I must be missing something.

Yes. Here's a couple things you might try:
  • Place sacrificial wood under it while cutting. Your final piece will have holes, but you could glue laminate, paper, or some other material to its back.
  • Make your outline thinner before bringing into jscut. Inkscape's Path -> Dynamic Offset can do this.
