as a token of appreciation to contributors of this project, I spent some time and hard disk creating a video showing evolution of JRuby source code over the years (using git and gource).

Cool!  Amazing, these visualization techniques... looks like JRuby is a living organism. What did you use to generate that?

I used gource (https://code.google.com/p/gource/) with a specific configuration, in order to hide some info and focus on speed of video.

I then used ffmpeg to generate the final video. Raw video was almost 20GB in size...
