I built a staff view for sorting staff by research_area. https://www.mgh-ita.org/staff.html

Now, we want to change the order the research_area categories appear on the page. I used the ordering field on the backend to put them in order, but I'm not sure how to get the research_areas to refer to the ordering field in the front end.

Because I have made modifications, I'm running a hybred J!Research 3.1-3.2 on the latest version of Joomla w/ php7

Any suggestions would be gratefullly appreciated.

Hi M. A.,
I'm afraid I do not see what you want to achieve. Can you please provide a screenshot of what you want?

Best!

Hi,

It seems to me that they are ordered by position rather than by research area. Do you mean "positions" by "research area"? Could you provide more information?

I checked the code of the latest version and the positions are listed according to the their ordering field in the backend.

Cheers,
Luis

I I copied over the position.php and position.xml files to create my researcharea.php & researcharea.xml files because it was the best way to organize my research group. I've included code in txt files.

I recently reordered the Research Areas to change their order on my staff page. On the backend, they appear in the new order, but the order hasn't changed on the frontend. I've tried clearing all the caches and it isn't working. That makes me wonder if I missed something when I tweaked the php & xml files.

They are ordered by research area, then ordered by order within the research area. My research areas are Directors, Principal Investigators, Affiliated Researchers, Research Staff, Fellows, etc. Most names are in alphabetical order, by last name, but not my lab leadership, and sometimes someone is promoted to a more senior title.

When I initially set the page up, I created the research areas in the order they were to appear on the page, but now I need to change the order of appearance.

Hi,

Why don't you reorder the fields in the array in the tpl file? That way you do not need to use backend positions and you can make it whatever order you need ;)
