Customizing the button and restricting notes to a layer

I have two questions about this awesome Jquery plugin:

First, is it possible to customize the position and appearance of the
new note button, or better yet hide it and add notes by a JS
function? The hard-coded button clashes with my website design.

Second, is it possible to restrict all notes to a single layer? I
have a full-screen div that can be hidden and shown on demand and I
would like all of the notes to appear in that div/layer and disappear
with it.
