Does the text you type in stick around when you switch pages?

Subject line pretty much says it all.... Does the text you type in stick around when you switch pages?  I have a potential client who has many different item numbers for products that they want their customers to be able to keep track of.  they don't want to pay extra for an actual shopping cart system.  I thought this might be a good alternative, if it can work even when you switch between pages.  Any help is more than appreciated!
