add variable year as string to tooltip (year = value)

Hello,

I produce a simple bar graph of 5 bars/years.   I want to format the tooltip by adding a year that will vary by bar for each bar graph.  The bar graph does not accept x:y pairs.  So another avenue is needed.   If the string entries

could be variable, that would do it.   Any guidance will be appreciated.
