Hi,

I'm looking for an Android theme for jQTouch or something web I can
adapt. Did any of you geeks out there saw something good?

Thanks!

Also, do any of you know of a similar website like http://pttrns.com ?
If no theme, I will start from scratch, but I need a reference as the
Android SDK does not really point out to guidelines.
App suggestions that are native-like on Android are also welcome!
Thanks!

I use QuickConnect Hybrid (Jqtouch) for Android and iPhone.

You can get some info for QuickConnect Hybrid for Android here.

Hmmm. I might be to tired, but all I see here is a jQTouch "green theme" and the Apple theme...

I actually made the default jQTouch theme to resemble Android a bit (while bringing in some of the polish from iOS). The goal was to have a unique theme that _could_ work in either OS. Have you checked into the new Sass based theming? The themes are pretty flexible with variables and such: https://github.com/senchalabs/jQTouch/wiki/Theming

Yes, as a matter of fact I did. Awe-som-e work David! Seriously great!

But for now, I was looking for a quick fix just to get more native-like, but for the next minor version, I'll get the new jQTouch+Zepto :) Already quick and dirty tested it and it all works perfectly event with jquery.localize for localization :)

I'll try your default green theme first, but if it's not Android enough, I'll just get on SASS and do it for the next version! :)

Forgive the interuption but how are you getting rid of the URL bar in
Android. I can do it in IOS but it never goes away on my Droid

Actually... I started doing this for my own app but haven't had a chance to finish it. I got frustrated that even when it was themed Android-ish, it still had all the iOS navigation patters (back buttons in large navigation toolbars, etc).

It's not that hard to do your own,really... though mine is based on the old image-heavy version, the new version should make it even easier.

A basic ul/li list

A more complex ul/li list

A toggle/checkbox:

I even added a menu to animate up when you press the menu button (this was for a PhoneGap app)

The fact that others might be interested in this makes me think I should prioritise finishing it...

Hi,

I for one, would love to use this theme! :) Any plans to release it?

Thanks!

I absolutely have plans to release it... but first I'll need to finish it.

It basically only handles the UI elements I used in the app I wrote it for.

I have tried plugging it into the jQTouch kitchen sink demo and there is clearly some work left to do ;)

I'll announce it in here for sure when I finish it, and since it seems people are interested in it I might even push it up the queue a bit, hehe.

Hey devgeeks,

Any update on this theme of yours?

Thanks!

Yeah, it's a bit stalled.... mostly due to lack of time.

The plan now is to put it on Github and take pull requests for anyone able to help make it better.

The initial goal would be to get it to cover everything in the kitchen sink.

Probably you also improve jQT Android native theme to run faster.

Here are tips how to make jquery mobile run better in Android + PhoneGap

jQT doesn't suffer from as many performance issues as jQuery Mobile... but yeah... there are still some CSS elements best avoided on Android... hehe

Let us know what Git repository you will be creating! :) Even if you just have a small portion of the theme done, it can quickly get done with collaboration!

Yeah, I am going to make it a goal to get it up this week.

Hold me to it ;)

Am guessing this never eventuated?
Would like to see a more comprehensive Android theme if you have anything :)

Yeah, I suck... :(

One of the issues is that it was so tied to the older jQTouch being used in the DataZombie fork, and being fairly Gingerbread looking while we are now up to Jellybean, heh.

This has finally guilted me into putting it on Guthub in all it's unfinished (lack of) glory - even though I know I should be embarrassed of it... hehe

Please feel free to fork it and make it better, pull requests and issues will be warmly welcomed..

Great - thanks! Having a quick look now.
Just wonder why you are using the Helvetica fonts for an Android theme though?

Also noticed you have specified the background image (chevron.png) twice here:

#jqt ul.metal li.arrow {
    background-image: url(img/chevron.png);
    background-position: right center;
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-image: url(img/chevron.png), -webkit-gradient(linear, 0% 0%, 0% 100%, from(rgba(238,238,238,1)), to(rgba(156,158,160,1)));

I don't think I touched those styles (certainly not the metal one)...

Maybe that was in the version of the jqt theme I started from as a base?

As for the font, that was probably a default as well... or ignorance.

If you know what it should be PLEASE lodge an issue and I'll fix it :)

If anyone still has any interest in this... I will be starting over on a new Android theme in 2-3 months for an open source project I am working on.

The theme will be open source as well and I would welcome any opinions/help/patches/etc.

I'll post in here when work starts on it... just thought I'd give this a bump.

Great. I'll make sure to post on here when development starts on it. I'll keep dev on the theme apart from the app in it's own project to encourage collaboration :)

It would be very useful. Android is definitely picking up stream.

Make sure you take a look at "Vanilla" theme, from the master branch
if you haven't. It is resemble to Gmail theme used in Android.

Thomas,

Absolutely. I was going to start with vanilla and build up from there. I personally like Vanilla almost more than the Apple theme even for iOS ;)

Also, let me take this opportunity to thank you for taking over maintenance of jQTouch. It's stil one of the only decent mobile UI frameworks out there. It would have been terrible for it to have stagnated.

Thanks for all your great work.

Thomas,

Well, I have just started this big jQTouch open source project, so I will probably be bothering you with pull requests ;)
