The README holds:-

"Visit http://jpos.org/resources for further information."

And near the top of that page:-

Documentation

The easiest way to learn jPOS is by buying the Programmer's Guide. In
addition, you can browse the API Docs and source code online. jPOS-EE
can be downloaded from its Github repository.

We are also working in a new and unified project documentation. While
still in an early stage you can can download it *here*.

FYI, just updated the README file (renamed to README.md) with general information on how to get going.

May I ask what is the latest release of the Programmer's Guide?

Latest release is 1.6.7. The main changes since then are documented in http://jpos.org/wiki/ChangeLog

We've experienced two major build changes, in 1.8.6 we moved to Maven, and in 1.8.9 we moved to Gradle.

The code didn't have significant changes since 1.6.7, just minor features, enhancements and bugfixes, there are no new components.

The build system should be easy to understand if you know Gradle, but the good news is that you don't have to build jPOS, you can use our Maven artifacts.

If you are starting to play with jPOS, the easiest way is to get our jPOS application template (https://github.com/jpos/jPOS-Template).
