"reverse the reversal"

Hello,

Please, from this andy orrock clip (http://andyorrock.typepad.com/
paymentsystems/2006/04/handling_acquir.html), there was a saying 'do
not reverse the reversal', WHAT IS THE EFFECT OF SENDING DOUBLE
REVERSAL to a switch, say Postilion?

If you are talking 0420s then being an advice its final. 99.999% of
the time it will neverget declined.

Maybe you can do a force post 0220 to fix your scenario.

I have not run into this but here is my thinking.
Consider sending a 420 the initial reversal. It gets put in the SAF.
Then you try reversing this so you put the second one in the SAF. The
second one cannot proceed before the first one goes through as they
are linked. So there is a possibility of the second one getting
declined (very rarely this decline will happen).


Can you tell me when would you want to reverse a reversal?
Since you seem to be acquiring, something would trigger a reversal you
send.

I think you may need to indicate which scenario - if any - you referring
too or experiencing. This phrase is used (I think) at the point the
logic see that a reversal has already been done and is therefore not
needed a second time.

However...

What actually happens will depend on the implementation of the 'Issuer'
system, I wonder if you are asking what will happen to the card holder's
balance...

Some 'Issuers' will be 'clever' enough to check that a reversal has
already taken place and decline your second request - even if you don't
indicate that the second is a repeat.

Others may blindly credit their cardholder's balance with the amount of
the transaction each time you tell them to...
....and then look forward to your settlement 8).
