Everyone,

If you are in the honors program, are really, truly serious about learning Japanese, and have a very clear idea of your academic goals, you should consider applying for a Fulbright scholarship.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulbright_Program

This is one of the most prestigious academic scholarships in the world, but getting one would be a flashing neon sign on your resume that would open many doors. And, you would get to go to Japan for a year to study pretty much anything you want.

But, a quote: "The Fulbright year is more than an educational enhancement, resume builder, or extended travel opportunity," said Peter Jorgensen, chair of the Fulbright selection committee at UGA. "It is a life-altering experience that will always remain an important part of the recipient."

Dear Franklin College Department Heads:

The attachments and the message below concern the U.S. Student Fulbright
Program, which is overseen at UGA by Maria de Rocher,
the new Coordinator of Honors Programming.  Maria will be hosting
information sessions about this program.  Please share this
information with faculty and students in your units.

Thanks, Noel

The 2010-2011 Fulbright competition officially opens May 1, 2009, and
the campus deadline is September 14, 2009.  In April,  I will be
holding three information sessions, two for undergraduates and one for
graduate students.  I have attached the poster for the April information
sessions and a one-page information sheet.

The three information sessions in April will be:

For undergraduates:
Friday, April 3, 3:30-5:00pm, in 116 Moore
Thursday, April 9, 3:30-5:00pm, in 116 Moore

For graduate students:
Friday, April 17, 3:30-5:00pm, in 264 Baldwin Hall

Once I obtain booklets for 2010/2011 competition from Fulbright (due out
in April), I will send you some for your reference.

Much thanks,
Maria
