An "interesting" development... We may not be able to use our room next week for our final exam. =P

I am trying to decide what to do. Options include a short final on Thursday, some kind of take-home final, or some kind of 5-10 minute one-on-one (or two-on-one) interview type final.

We can talk more about this in class tomorrow (and need to decide what to do then), but in the meantime I'm open to suggestions & discussion...

No final, just BS it and say last weeks test was our "final", that should get you past the departmental mandate. =p

On Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: I wanted to see that MiSTed. XD
Has anyone read The Eye of Argon? It's supposedly Science Fiction's
worst story -ever-, but it's one of those things that's so bad it's
awesome.
Here's the first part of the MiSTed version, which is supremely funny:
http://groups.google.ca/group/rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc/msg/21e7e004ef11e074
And the other parts can be found here: http://www.keithpalmer.ca/msting-mine/original.html
Full story: http://www-users.cs.york.ac.uk/~susan/sf/eyeargon/eyeargon.htm

Okay sorry, I had to throw that out there. It's one of my favorite
reads.

As for the final exam... I like the idea of a take-home final or a
short one on Thursday. Just get it over with, I suppose?

Will it be this Thursday or next week if that's the case?

Sweet. See y'all tomorrow!

Brilliant. I say that we translate this story into Japanese for our final. =D

I love the idea of reading contests with this, to see who can give the best dramatic read without laughing...Just wonderful...

the final exam? Will we be having a mini version on Thursday? Is it
possible making the karaoke the final grade?

We decided to have an abbreviated final on Thursday and get it over with.

Today we finished going through the lessons and talking about what would definitely be on the final, what definitely won't, and what might be. You might want to try to get together with a friend and compare notes.

To everyone--a summary of my suggested study tips:

* First, go over previous tests and make sure that you remember what you got right, and now understand what you got wrong. (Tests are my primary source of inspiration when writing the final.)
* For anything you feel shaky about, try doing the associated exercises. (Exercises are my secondary source of inspiration.)
* Focus kanji/vocab study on words that common sense dictates are more important. The obvious example is that "municipal hospital" will not be on the final, while basic verbs (eat, drink, sleep, study, walk, read, talk, say, etc) are likely to appear.
* You won't need to translate long sentences into Japanese--you will at most need to write only short phrases in Japanese, and/or possibly translate shortish sentences from J to E.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

--Tony

Regrettably, I missed class Tuesday. (I set my alarm incorrectly...)
What decision was reached regarding the final?

He responded to my message, cause I had the same issue. We're having a
mini-final on Thursday. More details are listed in the response. Good
Luck!
