Rhoads -- Right now, we're up against a pretty big opponent. (Actually, a few.) When California's lawmakers passed a bipartisan bill in 2014 to ban single-use plastic bags, they knew it was good for the environment, shoppers, and local businesses. But it wasn't good for big, out-of-state plastic companies. Specifically, four companies from Texas, South Carolina, and New Jersey have spent more than $6 million running a deceptive campaign to make sure they can keep profiting from polluting California's coastlines with their plastic waste. We're a grassroots campaign that can stop them, but we need everyone who stands against big plastic to step up: We're 67 days from Election Day, so there's no better time to chip in $67 to invest in Yes on 67, the campaign fighting for a cleaner California.
This isn't rocket science -- this is about protecting California's legendary wildlife and coastlines for generations to come. When San Jose passed a local plastic bag ban, they saw immediate results: a 59% reduction in park and roadside plastic bag litter, a 60% reduction in creek and river litter, and an 89% reduction in storm drain litter. And banning plastic bags is good for the economy: A report on the effects of Los Angeles County's plastic bag ban from its Department of Public Works noted that since the ban, "local reusable bag companies have started to emerge to take advantage of this growing market." Big plastic will be spending big money to stop us. We're 67 days from victory, but we need your help: Donate $67 today, and let's stand against big plastic, and stand up for a cleaner California.
