The Earth Public Engagement team will host its 6th Climate Day event on Wednesday, September 21 from 9 am - 2 pm at the Pasadena Convention Center. I founded JPL Climate Day as an educational event for middle- and high-school
students to bring them together with scientists and community leaders to learn the latest facts about global climate change.
We expect more than 1000 students to attend. Most will come from Pasadena and L.A. area public schools and the majority of them will be middle-school aged. We will hold a plenary session from 9-11 am, where we have introductions
and welcoming remarks, and then a keynote presentation. From 11 am – 2 pm we have "concurrent sessions" where students are scheduled to hear talks, do hands–on activities, see demonstrations, and participate in our "Climate Jeopardy" competition, among other
things. One of the primary goals of the event is that the students learn about climate and climate change and other Earth science topics in a fun and exciting atmosphere.
I was thinking that as part of the "concurrent sessions", it might be nice for the students to hear about the JPL Green Club, how it started, what its purpose is, and the kinds of things it does here on lab and within the JPL/Caltech community at large.
Another topic could be environmentally-friendly landscaping, farmers markets and home gardening, alternative energy, etc. The intent would be to give the students information, ideas and encouragement to start environmental clubs on their campuses and to adopt
environmentally-friendly habits at home. Would any of you be willing to give a presentation?
The 3-hour concurrent sessions period is divided into 1/2-hour blocks. You would give a 15-20 minute presentation and have 5-10 minutes for Q&A. The last five minutes would allow the students to move to the next session. You would repeat the presentation
2-3 more times during the 3-hour period. Any physical item that could be touched or looked at closely would be cool.
I think the students (and the adults) would learn a lot from your experiences.
You can go to the web page:

interested in doing a presentation. We also have free, exhibitor space available. Contact me if you need more information.

Annie
