I recently came across this organization that offers zero emission vehicles for van pooling and car sharing.  Is anyone at JPL doing this, just curious?  FYI, I forwarded the info onto John Miranda at JPL Rideshare to let him know about it.

Thanks for forwarding the link. I sent them an inquiry, giving route, # of members, and cost specifics for our Palmdale-area vanpool, and will be interested to see what they respond with. I would encourage anyone else in a vanpool to do the same.

It seems that this would dovetail nicely with the adaptive chargers being installed here @ JPL. Right now we fuel our van at JPL every couple of days using an authentication card at the JPL gas station (we then get billed via the Credit Union), so using a JPL charger would be very similar in concept. Our van has, like many vanpools on-lab, an assigned parking spot, so I could see that the infrastructure and procedures to use an electric van could conceivably be adapted with minimal disruption.

I’m doubting that a Tesla Model X like they intend to use can come anywhere close to being cost-competitive per person with our 14-passenger Ford van, but am eager to be pleasantly surprised!

Had no idea that the authentication card set-up existed. Years ago, I tried lobbying for use of the compressed natural gas fueling stations on lab.  Maybe time to dust that back off, for the few folks who use that resource.
