Hello Friends!
It's hard to believe it's been over a year-and-a-half since I last posted an update. Well, I'm happy to say that's because I've been busy on my latest project, which I'm thrilled to share with you today.
This summer, I shot A PICTURE OF YOU, my first feature film. We're currently in post-production (more on that in a moment) and are submitting it to festivals for a 2013 premiere. The movie looks fantastic and has some incredible performances from a diverse group of up-and-coming actors.
This story is very personal to me and I feel really lucky that it will be my feature debut. I can't wait to show this film to you next year.
But while we've SHOT the film, we're far from FINISHING it. And that's where you come in. We need to raise $30K in finishing funds by Nov. 11 so that we can complete the work that remains to be done -- editing, sound mix, color correction, and visual effects -- and to lay the groundwork in getting the film out to the public.
To raise funds, we've created a page on Kickstarter where supporters of the film can pledge funds and receive wonderful rewards in return. Please check out our page, which has lots of excellent info about the film and the team behind it:
As you may know, Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing affair, so if we don't reach our goal of $30K by Nov. 11, we don't get ANY of the funds pledged. Hence, we're faced with a big challenge in the weeks ahead to make our goal.
We're especially on the lookout for "angels" who can help us out at the $1,000 level or above, but we are deeply appreciative for ANY amount you're able to contribute. And after you've donated, we hope you will share your enthusiasm for our film with many others. A little bit from a lot of people quickly adds up -- and that, in this day-and-age, is how quirky independent movies with no Hollywood stars get made.
As some of you might know, I'm a self-taught, self-funded filmmaker from a working-class immigrant upbringing. I didn't start making my short films until well into adulthood, and I've prided myself in funding them on my own (meager) dime by working a 9-to-5 day job. Embarking on feature films has long been a dream of mine, but the bigger scale of these productions mean that I can no longer fund them on my own.
As I move into this new phase of my filmmaking, I want to express my gratitude for the support you've given me along the way. I hope you'll continue with me in this crazy adventure -- not least because it's gonna soon get even more crazy and more fun!
Thank you, as always, for your support.
