What are we trying to do?
We, the organisors of Software Freedom Day in Johannesburg, South Africa, are passionate about free software and ensuring its adoption in government and business across South Africa and Africa in general.
To market free software and SFD in 2013 we would like to get Richard Stallman, the creator of the GPL license out to South Africa to address audiences in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Pretoria.
What We Need & What You Get
We need money to fund his air-ticket to South Africa and back. If you contribute you get to know that you are contributing back to free software and helping a country adopt free software to solve its many problems and overcome its difficult challenges.
We also have specific funding options listed below.
What we hope to achieve
A successful visit by Richard Stallman will help bolster the adoption of free software by the South African government and business. It will help foster the nacent free sofware based businesses that provide employment and generate innovation in South Africa.
In addition RMS's visit will help foster the growth of free software based communities and user groups in South Africa.
