Hi everyone!

I have been talking to HaeJin lately about putting a team together to go back to Thailand this year to continue what we started last year.  After speaking with her for a bit, and talking with the Bangkok team, we thought that we could put together a trip this summer with two goals:

1. Spends a day or two in Bangkok discussing with Annie how we can support them from here, more than just financially.  I.e. selling jewelery, etc., and letting people who are passionate about their ministry be more immersed in what is happening on the streets of Bangkok.  Nightlight is extremely busy right now (which is great! =) ), so we don't want to burden then any more than we have to by asking them to take us around.

2. Spend a week or so at an orphanage.  Possibly the orphanage that we're supporting.  Maybe multiple orphanages.  This would be where a majority of the time would be spent.

So that's as far as we've come so far.  We are hoping to make an announcement about the trip next Sunday, so I was wondering if you guys could give input into how you think a trip this year could work out.  More specifically, I don't know what sorts of things we can commit to doing with the orphanages.  So could the Chiang Rai team give us some ideas?

I'm going to help to put the team together and train them, but I won't be going myself this year.

Thanks!

Daniel

Daniel,
This is so great and exciting!  I've been praying that God raises up another team to go this year~  Will this be through YWAM again?  I'd like to help in any way that I can~

As for input from the Chiang Rai group, the orphanages that I think should be revisited are below.  Other members, please add on!:

This is where they just need anyone to keep going and sharing His love and gospel so that it is constantly reminded and instilled in their hearts.
definitely the poorest out of the orphanages we visited.  And as Rich, our ambassador from Joy to Pastor Somchart and the kids there, has been keeping us up to date with their ongoings, they recently were blessed in being able to purchase land from an auction.  I'm sure they need hands to help work the land to get them started!  Lastly, since our last trip, we've been presenting to the Joy board to be a long term supporter to House of Union and with Rich spearheading this, the church has donated a good amount.  Praise God!  Though, I know that one of the requirements in Joy being a committed supporter was to continue our prayers and communication there and having a team going there yearly to check on their status and sustaining a good relationship would help make this more effective, showing the church that we really do care about the orphanages we visited on our "scouting" trip last year.
Khaodee Orphanage (Elijah Foundation) - http://www.elijahfoundation.org/orphanage.php?cat_id=3
although this orphanage was filled with spirits more giant than us in some ways, it was such a place that God revealed to us His presence and support in the country.  Even if it's for a day, I would recommend a visit there to experience an awe-inspired time and fellowship and praise with the children there.

yay! i'm SO excited!!! can't wait to see the kids!
i agree with shirley... akha, house of union and khaodee. i just can't pick one... although if
i HAD to i guess house of union since we are supporting them... but when the kids are at school, there's not much we can do but help nina (the pastor's wife) with chores; but now that they bought their own land, they may need some help (?) not really sure though.
if possible, i think starting or ending at khaodee would be awesome. the kids there completely and utterly blew us away!

i agree with shirley and jennie..  i think they said it all..  khaodee, akha, and house of union...  i vote all 3, hard to just pick one..  khaodee kids are awesome, so filled with the HS, we all cried, must go there..  akha has the most need, they have so many kids (400+), some of them have scabies, they seemed most poor too, and some unhappy or even traumatized, must go there too..  i agree with jennie bout house of union, extreme home makeover is wut we thought they needed help with most when we were there, but now that theyve moved not sure, but we are supporting them so thas a must go too..

Okay, is anyone in contact with house of union right now?  (richard?)  do you know if there are things we can do for them now that they own their own land?

Right now they are in the process of getting estimates to build the buildings.  I'm guessing maybe by the time we organize a trip for the summer, we can help with construction.

Ohhh construction.  That'd be hot.  Well.. for some people... =P

Do you know (or could you email them to ask) what other pending projects we could be involved in if we stayed for a few days to a week?

Thanks, Rich!

So you're suggesting visiting just one orphanage and investing deeply for the entire time?

Hi.

It's encouraging to see many of you excited for the trip...and even those who may not go themselves, to desire to send off the team.

I've suggested to Dan but it'd be great if we can secure and annouce the date for the ophanage by this upcoming Sunday?  If this is too soon, the week after the latest in order to prepare well for the trip?

since we'd like to officially partner up with one orphange to build relationship, it'd be great to see others organizations, I want to also suggest that we invest into one organization deeply.  And going to visit a number of places to get a bigger picture is important for the trip; however, trip being so few in days, i wonder visiting many places would be best to encourage the ministries there...

Very excited for you guys....=)

I agree that if we can, we should just visit one orphanage and invest all the way there.  It's encouraging to them and it benefits them more (if they have work for us to do).

Just thought that instead of being at many places for few days at a time (which i think is better for us to get the big picture), but if the orphanage is willing and ready to take on the team entirely, I think that would be a better use of the time there for the sake of the people there...

You've also mentioned that you'd have a separate visit set aside for nightlight while you are there as well....

Visiting 3 orphages n nightlight doesn't seem much different from the first trip then, no?  \

again, this is with the understand that HOU is ready to house and able to partner up with you guys for the longer period...of course.

Daniel,

Are there already dates planned for the trip?  Based on Heejin's email, it sounds like there are definite dates planned.  I know a few people who may be interested and would like to forward the dates to them.

Thanks,
Julie

No, there aren't definite dates, yet.  We need to come up with definite dates soon, though.  Before the announcement which will be either this sunday or next.  But before that, we need to finalize what the general plan of the trip will be.
