can I replace any of the Laminar GNS430/GNS530 with the RealityXP ones? Or does the plane need to support that like it has to with the GTNs? Just curious before I purchase since there is no trial I think.

As far as I know yes... The aircraft has to support it. Now there has been a couple AeroBask planes (550NG & Panthera) that someone did a bunch of coding to make at least the GTN's work in their 3D cockpit. So it is possible to do.

@thingsis Hi, it is much easier to retrofit the Reality GNS 530 V2 or Reality XP GNS 430 V2 in any aircraft because almost all aircraft use the default X-Plane GPS. In this case, the panel can be easily modded for the Reality XP GNS which will display over the stock GPS and intercept the default GPS command from the 3D bezel (see the RXP GNS User's Manual for the B58 tutorial - freely downloadable from our web site GNS main page)

Yes the data bases can be updated... I'll fully agree with that. But at a cost of between 500$ to 1000$ for a full year. That's just unrealistic and out of reach price wise for most simmers. And yes I know it's out of your hands (pricing that is) but it should really be made known to potential customers up front. It's not that it can't be updated, it's the cost of having it updated that turns users away.

However, it is possible the GNS makes some approaches unavailable if the RAIM check fails (I'm not sure whether you'll only get a 'degraded' message during final approach or the approach won't be listed).

Reality XP is nicer than stock and is based on Garmin's actual simulators so it's mostly full function, but access to data is a challenge. It uses Garmin proprietary data, and the current way to get updates for the Navdata is essentially backdoor sharing between flight simmers. Sadly there is not a way to get Navigraph, or equiv for it.

For real world IFR practice, RealityXP is better, but for current Navdata, and flying around the World of X-Plane and not having every single function available, then the stock 430/530 is more usable.

Again, literally, when the device boots up, what does it display as "Main Software" version?
Can you please cross check GNS AUX Pages Software Version?

the most recent trainer ships with v3.30. If you compare 5.4 to 3.3 there is not much difference in practice, but support for Rotorcraft, some newest external LRUs, and a few other items which are important only in a real aircraft.

Let me try to explain: You should have noticed the screenshots on our website show the modern GNS software boot screen as opposed to the older one in the standalone trainer you are using for comparison.

Reality XP GNS 530W/430W V2 is the genuine simulated device users are counting on, whether pilots familiarizing themselves with the workings of the actual equipment or flight simulation enthusiasts navigating the virtual skies with the most complete series of GNS devices.

New Garmin GNS Trainer with GPS software 3.3 integrated navigator, exclusively showcased in our add-on, and Reality XP's unmatched expertise for nearly two decades, offer new capabilities only available in our products, and it shows!

It's nice to see that the latest reality XP products ship in the background the GNS Trainer 3.30 with complete SBAS support or the GTN Trainer 6.50. A long time ago, we only have WAAS in the USA. The advanced functions if the product were not available outside this perimeter. As a consequence I departed from being a RXP customer. So it's better with this V2.

I've read the RXp manual but no information about updating. Because it's the sensitive part. If you explore the forum post, you have informations and promises that it will be improved by the developper. It's the blind spot of the Garmin Trainer usage. You have to update the Trainer with proprietary format distributed only by Garmin. It would be easy to write a converter from X-Plane Nav data, but the format specification are undisclosed for good so it ain't gonna happen. I guess I have to look for update information in the garmin manual. But, good luck to find it !

I've found in forums that we now have a new database format (ADB2) and we can update it from -garmin/support/pricing#. If you have a RXP GTN, select GTN 7XX and look for "Individual databases" ... ..."Navigation Data". Around $195 a single update. Connect to your Garmin account to buy it. Attention if you have a RXP GNS 5XX, the GNS trainer lite v3.3 of the GNS V2 is also compatible with the G500/600 Jeppesen database. If you select the G500 on the GArmin web page, you can find an International nav database single individual update at $90.

The default XP GNS are very well done and easy to update, because they use the ARINC-424 derived X-Plane database. It's integrated by numerous aircraft developpers. As other have said, the RXP gauge is the current solution to train on a Garmin Trainer in the background. But this has the cost of having to install it, maintain it, spendig time to retrieve information on it and not having the latest database if you don't want to pay $90 to $195 for a single update. What do you prefer ? The tradeoff is personnal choice at that point !

@XPJavelin thank you for trying to summarize some of the information about the Reality XP products. I'm not sure some of your comments are only rhetoric questions or genuine interrogations though. It is hard to sum up everything in a single post because these are highly advanced pieces of software (RXP) integrating another highly advance piece of software (Garmin). Let me try to explain.

The Garmin trainer is the 'core' simulation. It is the same code as the one in the real Garmin device, wrapped in a Windows application shell. Our solution is not just 'bridging' the trainer into X-Plane though. Our solution rewrap the Garmin trainer core simulation in our own shell, strips out the non-necessary Windows layers, dynamically patch the trainer at runtime to reduce its memory and CPU footprint, interfaces the trainer as if it is connected to actual avionics hardware, embedded authentic simulations of other avionics hardware like the Ryan TCAD, the Shadin Fuel and the Shadin Air data computers, and so much more. It is the culmination of 18 years of R&D on Garmin simulations.

As for the database like I've indicated there is a discussion just for this on our official support forums with lots of information, references, and other customers willing to assist and share. I strongly suggest you just follow through my recommended post which appears at the top of the discussion to get started. Really, just read the post and follow through literally. Don't interpret, just follow through the recommendations as-is and this will get you started.

Nevertheless, I've said in our forums that once we've released our currently planned and announced Garmin products, the G600/500 being the last one announced and in the line, I'll personally and actively work on a solution. I have a few new creative ideas I'd like to explore.

As for SBAS, there is no doubt the GTN supports SBAS and this is fully documented in the Garmin Pilot's Guide or on their website. It is a newer piece of equipment which was born when SBAS was already the norm. However, it is important we communicate about our GNS V2 SBAS capabilities because not only this was supported only after the GNS was first released (in real life), but also because the GNS trainer, even the 3.30 trainer, is not supporting the feature as-is and this requires our unique Reality XP R&D to make it a feature in the product.

As for the trainer 3.30 there is no point in asking where to download it from. Actually if you are a customer of the Reality XP GNS V2 the installer gives you a link to download it from in case the software installer fails to do it automatically, but you won't be able to run it standalone, it won't power on, and it requires our GNS V2 product to run.

As for the website, it is not easy to navigate for now, I concede, we're devoting all our resources to the products for now with the G600/500 still in the pipeline. In the meantime, the home page banner changes automatically or manually between the GTN and the GNS V2. Just select the product banner which is appearing and press the "EXPLORE" button to land on the correct product page where you'll find more information, download links etc...

Think of it like this; when you purchase a car, for example, it comes with enough gas to get you home, but when the tank is empty if you want to use your car well ya just have to go and pay for gas to make it move. Pretty much the same thing here. The GNSxxx software instruments are the car, the database is the gas. If you want the real experience, you pony up the money, if not you can always putz around town on a very old database.

The long and short of it is these products require commitment. As a real world pilot I really have no idea anymore of how much money I have spent just on subscriptions. The reason these cycle an are mandatory in most situations is that accurate information keeps people alive and that is what you are paying for.

Is the opposite of this true? In my real-world PA28R-200 Arrow, I have a GNS 430w. Since I fly IFR, I have a monthly Garmin nav data subscription to keep the navigator up-to-date. Does anyone know if I can download and use the data from the real world Garmin 430w nav data subscription and somehow extract the relevant files to use with the RealityXP GTN750 to update the nav data?

I think there is a North American yearly database for the RW Garmin GNS530 priced at 399.00. That is something I would consider purchasing for the Garmin trainer for Reality XP if I knew that it would work. Is that possible and if so how is that database installed for the Reality XP Garmin trainer?
