Stanley Gibilisco, 66, of Lead, S.D., passed away on May 3, 2020.

Stan was the son of Joseph and Josephine Gibilisco. He was born in Birmingham, Ala., where his father served in the U.S. Air Force. The family moved to Rochester in 1955, when his father joined the staff at Mayo Clinic.

Stan graduated from John Marshall High School in 1972. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in mathematics in 1976. Throughout his career, Stan worked in the areas of radio technology and technical writing. As a nonfiction writer, he authored over 50 books in the fields of electronics, general science, mathematics and computing.

Stan was an active member of the Rochester Amateur Radio Club from its beginning in 1967, communicating with people all over the world. The radio club evolved into the Courage Kenny Handiham Program, which provides tools for people with disabilities to learn valuable technology skills and earn their Amateur Radio licenses. Stan continued to be a strong supporter of the program throughout his life.

An avid swimmer, Stan enjoyed living in Florida and Hawaii. However, his favorite place to swim was at the family cabin on Lac Courte Oreilles, Wis. He enjoyed reading and researching, and was always ready to exchange ideas on a wide variety of topics, from calculus to cooking. He produced instructional, technical and general interest videos on YouTube. Subjects included electronics, computers, physics, mathematics, alternative energy and amateur radio.

Stan will be lovingly remembered as a kind and caring person, devoted to his family, with keen intelligence and strong faith in God.

Stan is survived by his father, Dr. Joseph Gibilisco of Rochester; two sisters, Marilyn (Rex) Boutelle of St. Paul, and Carol (Darrel) VanderZee of Onalaska, Wis.; three nephews, Tony Boutelle, Tim Boutelle and Samuel VanderZee. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Josephine Gibilisco, and one niece, Allison Boutelle.

Interment will be at St. Luke's Episcopal Church columbarium in Rochester at a later date.
