First, let me start by saying thank you to the folks at Joyent for releasing the connector!  Somehow, that played exactly what I was looking for just a few days ago, and looks very promising.  So I'm really glad you did release it, and again, thank you.

It seems that's there is already quite a bit of interest and a few people took it upon themselves to start documenting the installation procedure ( https://dev.joyent.com/projects/connector/wiki/Installation+Instructions) Thank you Dr Nic  for getting the ball rolling!  And then a few others pitched in :)

Although I felt that communication through a wiki can be a bit limited and therefore felt we needed a better way to communicate.  Hence this group.  Use it to get help, to help others, to bounce off ideas, ...  Spammers not welcome, of course.

Cheers,
Pascal.

Thanks for getting this group set up, Pascal. I assume Joyent is
planning on setting up a mailing list, but it looks like you've beaten
them to the punch.

I've been using Connector for about six months (as part of my hosting
account at Joyent). It's really a great app, so I'm looking forward to
helping define what it will become. I'm glad that some people outside
the current userbase are already interesting in the application. Those
new to Connector might want to sign up for a free account (http://
joyent.com/connector/pricing/) to get a feel for the application.

I am not planning on running my own Connector---I'm quite happy with
the support Joyent provides but I hope to make some contributions to
the app. I'm thinking about trying a few machine learning algorithms
for automatic tag clustering.

If they do, then we'll fold this list.  I'd rather not see a fragmentation of the discussion.  Or they are welcome to join in and I'd be happy to transfer the list to them.  I just thought we needed a place to have a back and forth discussion

Indeed very nice and I started using it.

That's what I may end up doing, but I like the ability to tweak things very quickly, which is not something you can do when you have lots of users depending on you.

sounds interesting.

yes, thanks for starting this list. we at joyent may start our own
soon but for now this will work nicely. i wanted to chime in though +
say it's great to see people involved already + we're really excited
about any contributions you'll be making.

yes, the deployed customer version of connector will always lag behind
the development trunk, unfortunately. we'll be good about getting your
patches into trunk + will have more info on the wiki
https://dev.joyent.com/projects/connector/wiki soon about that. you do
have the option now to run it yourself, of course, although from my
own experience running a local branched version of an open source
project isn't always easy. we usually push new code to connector about
once every week or two, however, and i'd like to continue that if at
all possible.

It's good to have you here, Luke.

Indeed.  This can get tricky at times.  But it is doable with enough discipline.  Something like svk can help.

we've created a list that you can sign up for here:
http://lists.joyent.com/mailman/listinfo/dev

i'll be answering some of the questions from this list over there,
quoting the relevant information to provide sufficient context.

thanks for setting up this list, pascal, and i hope to see everyone
over on d...@lists.joyent.com ! :)

Hi All,

thank you for joining the list :)

As Luke has now created the "official list" at http://lists.joyent.com/mailman/listinfo/dev, this list no longer need to exist and I'll probably be closing it down soon.  For now, though, you can no longer sign up, but the archive will stay available to give everyone time to join the new list, and for Luke to answer any lingering question he has not already answered on the new list.

Talk to you all on the new list!
