As a soon (hopefully) recovering gmail addict, I've created a wish list that outlines my current thinking on what would make Joyent Connector a kickass communication tool: https://dev.joyent.com/projects/connector/wiki/Wish+List

Feel free to comment/complement...

I'm planning to tackle some of these as soon as I get to the point where I can start using it in earnest (I expect this to be soon and depends more on me finishing my postfix+dovecot+dspam+sieve filtering)

Cheers,
Pascal.

The thing I want a little direction on from Joyent is a list of what
improvements they are already working on. I know from my contact with
Joyent staff that they are working on filters (under the name Rules)
and a Notes application.

What do you mean by "A way to archive (a la GMail)"?

Using gmail, I got used to the "archive button", which can also be triggered by the 'y' key (and 'd' with grease monkey that also marks it as read).  What it does it removes it from the inbox, and keeps it in the "All mail" box, so I can always retrieve it using search.

What I'm looking for is for a way to get rid of emails from the inbox (I like to keep it empty or as close to empty as possible) but in a way that I can retrieve mails (moving to a different folder takes too many steps for most mails (call me lazy, but I get lots of emails every day (not counting spam)).

I see. My current workflow is to keep everything in the inbox and use
tags/smart folders to categorize things (like 'Needs reply, &c).

That may be the way to go here.  My real need is for the speed/minimal number of steps to do something.  Having clever enough keyboard shortcuts could be it.  Something to think about before implementing.  thanks!

i've created a lose connector roadmap https://dev.joyent.com/projects/connector/wiki/Roadmap
that incorporates everything you listed on the wish list page.

our current activity (and yours :) hopefully!) is listed here:

more information about this all in on the official joyent development
