To NENA members and other interested folks,

I hope you're all doing well and enjoying this welcome break in the heat.

I'm writing to invite you to our Chipapalooza work party at the Joy Avenue Pathway and Edible Forest Garden on Saturday, August 15 from 9 am to noon.  The pathway and garden links Bethel to Tullis streets along the Joy Avenue right-of-way and is located in the 1600 block of Bethel Street about 1.5 blocks north of the SF Bakery.  Whether you're new to the neighborhood, or a long-time resident, this is great opportunity to get connected with your neighbors to help make our corner of the community an even more beautiful, more walkable, and more wonderful place to live.  Even if you can only spare an hour, we'd welcome your help!

Between the heat and the lack of rain, there's been a little less joy along the Joy Avenue pathway this summer. But thanks to some new soaker hoses, and the dedication of a few stalwart waterers and weeders, the garden is now doing well.  And to keep it healthy, we need to lay down another thick layer of chips along the corridor to help retain moisture and keep the weeds at bay.

Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, and please bring a pitchfork or shovel, work gloves, and a wheelbarrow (if you can) to the work party. If you don't have tools or work gloves, we'll have some available for you to use.  Bakery treats will be provided!

To learn more, check out the pathway web page.  There you'll find our Garden of Eatin' Plant List which includes detailed descriptions and photos of the more than 250 edible plants you'll find along the trail.

I look forward to seeing you in the garden on Saturday, August 15.

With joy and gratitude,

Peter Guttchen
