Dear NENA members and other interested folks,
I hope you can join with your neighbors for one (or both) of the work parties in your neighborhood this Saturday, February 4. We've arranged for beautiful weather, and we promise they'll be good company, you'll get great exercise, and that your help will help make your neighborhood a better place to live. Who could ask for more on a Saturday in the middle of winter.
*Joy Avenue "Mulching Madness" work party - Saturday from 10 am - 1 pm. At this event, we'll be cleaning up storm debris and finishing up our work mulching the site with cardboard and chips to protect the beautiful new plants we put in the ground in November and to keep the weeds at bay when Spring arrives. The project site is located in the 1600 block of Bethel Street about 1.5 blocks north of the SF Bakery.
Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, and please bring a shovel, work gloves, cardboard boxes, and a wheelbarrow (if you can) to the work party. If you don't have tools or work gloves, we'll have some available for you to use. Join us for as long or as short a time as you can. Any help you can provide is appreciated including providing us with more cardboard. If you can't make it to the work party, there are plastic tarps at the Bethel end of the trail where you can leave flattened cardboard boxes.
* Olympia Parks Volunteer Event – Mission Creek Nature Park- Saturday, from 9 am - 12 pm
Please join us as we work on clearing storm debris from Mission Creek Nature Park (MCNP). Tools, gloves and light refreshments will be provided. Please dress for the weather and wear boots or sturdy shoes that can get muddy or wet. The MCNP is located at 1500 Fir St SE. We will meet at the park entrance. For more information contact Sylvana Niehuser at snie...@ci.olympia.wa.us or visit www.olympiawa.gov/parkvolunteer.
We apologize if this causes a scheduling conflict for those who would like to attend both events. You can contact Sylvana Niehuser at snie...@ci.olympia.wa.us or 753.8365 if you are interested in volunteering in the MCNP outside of the scheduled event. There are also future City of Olympia Parks Volunteer work parties in the MCNP scheduled for Saturday, March 17 and Saturday, March 24.
I hope to see you on Saturday!
