Hey,

As the rains gradually turn the browns to greens I am sure all of us, old and new, cant stop taking it all in. It really is lucky to live in the hills. Amidst this postcard scenery we see, there is a little village not thought about too much by us, which was not infiltrated by fancy education institutes and city bred kids just a few years ago. 

By Rajmudra, the closest place for palatable food from here, lives Usha didi, a widow in her mid forties making a living from working in the restaurant. A mother of two little children, a girl aged four and a three year old boy, Usha didi would really like to see her children educated. In her own words "Main apne bachon aapke jaise banaana chahti hoon" is something Usha didi works for.

Education as we all know is one of the only ways in which kids like Usha didi's may have access to any of the privileges we enjoy.

We have been researching on a few schools in the vicinity that offer good education and are affordable. Some of the options are as follows:

1. School Name: Vidya Valley school , Location: Pashan , Fee: 8000 per month per child                     

2. School Name: Dolphin English Medium School , Location: Sush Gaun, Fee: 18000 per annum for both the kids

             
3. School Name: NCL School, Location:  Pashan , Fee:     Close to 8000 per child per annum        

Usha didi's monthly salary is 2000 of which 700 goes towards rent and 500 for other living expenditure. She does try and save up the remainder towards the school expenses but this is no where close to affording fees, books, uniforms et al by herself. We really wish to help contribute towards the education of these children, but it will be impossible without the collective help of all the other students.

Please take the time to go through these details, contact us if you have any further suggestions, comments. ideas, solutions or sponsors. In the meantime, this is requesting every one of you to make any little contribution that you can spare or afford so that the current year fee can be filled in before a long time sustainable plan can be put into action.

I really appreciate the effort you guys have taken and something much more worthwhile than the 100's of cells we have formed. I support your initiative completely, and I urge the rest of the batches to lend a hand for this noble cause. I do not want to make it sound sympathetic or over socially sweet, but this is the least we can do for staying for 2 years in a land which belongs to these people.

Hey all

We could right away begin executing swati's idea... ppl cld volunteer for their respective classes to collect the money... i volunteer for AV 2011... on friday, 24th June we begin collecting the money and hand it over by monday to Eti/afra/sandy.

Some really good and meaningful work at last! Thanks to Eti, Afra and Sandy (and the others who are involved but don have their names on the mail)

If anybody has something to add on/problems, do reply n let us knw.

Is this enthusiasm for the Rs 10 every month idea. Because first of all, the money is required right away as the payments needs to be made for the whole year and one time admission fee. 

So, Rs. 10 sounds a little too less for one time payment. I think and I am sure we can spare more than that. I mean, I look around my room and see the shit I can spend on, so I can at least give a thousand bucks. Or at least something more than Rs.10. I am sure we end up spending way more than that on ourselves every month. 

Its just a suggestion. People can do it if they agree.

The current year fee for Dolphin English Medium school is 18,000 for both the kids. This 18000 includes one time admission fee of 4000 (for both the kids), uniform and books. She has already arranged for transport. The school has already started so we really need to speed up the process.

Also, If any of you guys have worked in any corporates/have any contacts in companies that you think are likely to fund such an initiative, do ask them to get in touch with us or contribute in whatever way they can. Alternatively, if you provide us with the contact, we have no qualms in personally getting in touch with them. 

I hear many students are unsure of who we are and are thus unable to track us down or make their contribution, just give us a call or send us a text and we will come and collect it from you. 

There is o fcourse no contribution that is too little, but a monthly installment system is not apt right now, as the fee needs to be collected asap.

For those worried about the transparency of the process, a detailed list of contributions as well as scanned copies of the fee receipt will most definitely be shared with you.

Hi All,

 

Whoever is planning to collect the amount their respective classes...please make sure you guys have a sheet of paper on which you need to have four columns with the date, name of the person contributing, amount contributed and their signature as and when you collect it before handing it over to eti or afrah. We had already planned about it but slipped our minds, this is only a step to keep the entire process more transparent for all, so please do keep in mind and follow.

 

Also there is a concept of yearly sponsorship of education of kids by several corporates and individuals, please try and see if you guys can come across anyone interested and we can figure something out. I feel it will be great if we can together make sure these kids have atleast a substantial amount of years covered by our efforts to go forth with their education without future concerns of money atleast.

 

Hope we meet our targets asap!

 Hi,

 

The girl's been put in Dolphin English Medium school which is at Sus Gaon. I am attaching the scanned copy of the fee reciept. We were able to collect Rs. 20,000 from SIBM and SIMC. The fees for one year for the girl is Rs. 8840. We are planning to put the rest of the money collected in a bank so that she can use that to pay next year's fees.

 

There were a lot of poeple who called and said that they have collected money from their classes/friends but that money never reached us. We will put the money in the bank on Monday so if you guys can give us the money before that, we wont have to make two trips to the bank.

 

Will send the scanned copy of the lists of the students and amount contributed by them by tomorrow.
