2. The History of Film Music (Music as used in Films) – these will be explored through examples and film clips

· Music vs. Sound effects - how the line is blurring rapidly
· The evolution of background scores in India post the 90s
· The Hindi film song – its historical roots and its cultural importance
3. Brief description of kinds of background music
· Themes for individual characters
· Themes adapted from songs in the film (in Indian films)
· Leitmotif
· Source music
· Situational music
· Underscoring
· Other kinds
4. Music composing for film
· Talking with the music composer/producer about the film’s musical requirements
· ‘Spotting’ the film - deciding the important cues and the kind of music required
· Providing a temp track to the composer if necessary… and the dangers of doing so
· Listening to the composer’s first ideas and providing feedback
· Finalizing the themes and other musical cues. Final feedback and changes
· Sitting in for the recording and final mixing of the music tracks
5. Practical composing session
· Practical recording session with most of the points from Section 4…
the classes shall be held in S08. i had a word with the admin with regard to shifting the lectures to s05. but that is not confirmed as of now.
