Dear all,
The following are a list of demands that we collectively decided upon post todays meeting. Feel free to add on to this list.
1. At least two well equipped ambulances, complete with medical facilites and staff (paramedics) that are knowledgable about their usage. The aforementioned ambulance must reach the spot immediately, considering the health centre is in the campus)
(A ratio of 2 to 1500, we believe is reasonable)
2. At least three doctors, who are certified, available around the clock and willing to pay room visits when the need arises. At least one must be a female doctor.
3. A chemist or medical store that is well stocked.
(although we do get free medicines in the health centre, they are only limited to two or three varities, and not necessarily the required ones)
4. Revision of insurance plan.
(Clear disclosure of what is covered, follow ups after health check ups on a regular basis)
5. The patient must be taken to the nearest medical facility and not one that is at the end of the town simply because the college has ties there.
6. The H1N1 vaccine should be compulsory (this action has been taken by several institues in the city, including FLAME where students are also given free preventive tablets)
7. The health centre should be functional round the clock, seven days a week.
8. There should be provisions for a sick room or infermary in the academic block
9. Considerations must be made for medical leave, and attendance should be added for the same.
10. The cart should be available for those who require it, without having to run around and wait endlessly.
11. The "emergency contact numbers" given on the reverse of the ID cards must be functional.
Apart from this, in light of the recent incidents, there are certain demands in terms of accountability that we as students believe we should be entitled to:
1. Reasons for the clear lack of efficiency in dealing with the situation.
2. Taking responsibilty and apologising for the same (to the concerned family as well as those of all the students, in writing)
- Every parent has the right and need to be ensured that their child is safe!
3. Refund of fees or compensation.
Do add on to any of these demands as a chain mail and all those representatives who are going to be interacting with the admin tomorrow, please make a note of these points.
P.S: All those who have personal experiences of past negligence in health care, kindly make a formal written note of them so that they can be collectively submitted to the authorities tomorrow.
