LADAKH
Exploring cultures other than their own can help visitors and locals in many ways, but tourism has to be done far more responsibly to be sustainable. It is possible to have a balance between 'ecology' and 'economy', and one need not suffer at the expense of the other.
Join us on a 11-day journey to Ladakh, a region in which one can still experience the poetry of nature, where ancient monasteries, jaw-droppingly spectacular lakes, an expansive high-altitude desert and a carefree, happy people reach out, and find a place in your heart. This makes you peer into the past, and lets you experience how life once was and, more importantly, how it can be if we learn to respect and live with nature.
We will be interacting with local people and organisations in an attempt to understand better how the objective of balancing ecology and economy can be achieved.
Experiences to savour:
- A 2-day trek through the beautiful Sham Valley where we'll be camping under a brilliant night sky...
- Rafting the Zanskar river through its magnificent gorges
- Cycling down from Khardung La, the highest motorable road in the world
- Learning more about the 'web of life' and the role we play in it...
- Camping by the side of a stunningly beautiful lake in the Tso Moriri Wetland Conservation Reserve situated at 14,500 feet above sea level
- Film screenings & stimulating discussions that will open your mind to a range of new perspectives
- Inspiring face-to-face interactions with people and organisations working on local culture & local issues
- Visiting Lamayuru, Phyang, Thiksay - some of the oldest and most picturesque monasteries in existence
- Watching polo matches, fun conversations, making music and new friends
- Free hands-on photography lessons in the heart of nature, for those interested...
The groups will meet in Leh on Monday, 30th May for the first Ladakh trip and Monday, 5th September for the second trip. The first day will be Tuesday, 31st May and Tuesday, 06th September for each trip respectively.
CONFIRMING YOUR PARTICIPATION
Please confirm your participation at the earliest by sending in the advance amount. Train tickets are very difficult to lay hands on closer to the holidays, while flight tickets tend to cost more
closer to the date
. We always recommend train travel as it helps keep your own, and our collective, carbon footprint low.
Have a wonderful day. =)
Cheers!
