Ever since I installed Windows 11 in mid July after joining Windows Insider Program I've experienced severe lags while watching any types of videos whether it's Youtube player or .mkv files. Usually after around a minute the video would be super laggy (audio works fine) or will stop altogether (audio is fine as well). It doesn't affect any other software including games, only videos. Task manager doesn't show any spikes of CPU, GPU or RAM usage.
@imhereforonequestion Hey, are you by chance using a soundbar that you're passing your video through? I am, and I wonder if that is the issue--like, maybe Windows 11 is handling the bandwidth differently or something?
@imhereforonequestion I have been suffering the same problem for some time now. When playback of any video be it online or locally stored, there would be what I could only discern as video lag or buffering for up to 15 to 30 seconds. After the initial buffering everything would be fine. Not really a big deal but very annoying to say the least. After many hours of research and troubleshooting it found that the culprit was the RealTek audio driver. Start by uninstalling that driver and locating the correct Intel audio device driver and installing that. After doing this I've had no further problems with any video playback.

I got an MP3 file, Right clicked and open with. I then hovered over open with another program... Selected "Choose another app"

I'm afraid it's not really an option, but there's another way:
Go to your music library, right-click on any mp3 file and select Open With, and find Spotify. The file then opens in Spotify. After this move all the MP3 files should open with Spotify as default.
This does address the real issue, as I think many are trying to set it as their media player for their keyboards and such. I don't always have a file ready, and just need to open my media player (spotify).
A good method is to just right click spotify in search or the spotify icon if its on your desktop and pin it to your task or start menu so its easy to access. Sadly theres no way to set as defualt or link to your keyboard for ease of access.

Windows media player is exposed as an activex control that any scripting language running in the windows script host should be able to access. You should be able to use jscript to control it. There is no open JavaScript library as far as I know for crossbrowser clientside handling of a WMP player.However, this link should make it quite easy for you to start your own little library. The code might need some updating and testing in modern browser versions but you have the basics there.
The library your searching for would be a great idea for a Google Code project, I guess that while everyone today is using Adobe Flash with sIFR / swfobject or Microsoft Silverligt with sistr etc, there are not much interest to write clientside script controlling for WMP.
