Nice summary, Chad. I especially like the DM part. It's a better
idea than it looks. For the cost of a fo'ty, you can have a DM who at
least has a chance not to suck.

To Do List: Buy some Olde English, make my player character, win.

Good news and bad news-
Good news is that I'll probably be able to make it and be a part of
the game because I failed the test horribly enough that HR didn't even
bother talking to me like I was a human,
Bad news is that I'm back to my old self, and am completely unreliable
in every way.

There were several people ahead of me on the list, so I'm holding off to see if any of them are going to jump in. So far they've been pretty silent. I do have Friday nights off so I might be throwing my hat in the ring here if they don't speak up!

I'd be interested in a paladin, a swordmage (as I recall, there were two or three of those already), a warlock, or maybe one of those preview characters (artificer, druid or bard). Heck, maybe even a warlord!

But I know there was that Bread Company group as well as a guy and a doll, so I'll stay quiet for now in case they're still interested.

Consider it a blessing. They could have hired you without testing you,
and then fired you two weeks later when they realized you were
unqualified for the position. Use this as motivation to work on those
skills that you are lacking. I used to work in IT, so shoot me an
email if you need suggestions or help.

Oh man, that sucks.  I'm sorry to hear that.  I was rooting for you.

So that means you'll be staying in Colorado for the long-term, then?

You're totally welcome to hang out and play with us, of course.  No test necessary!

Hey Gang I'm looking forward to seeing you/meeting you this Friday.

Josiah, I'm emailing you a word doc on what I have on my character.
I'm afraid the "numbers" part has me stymied...can you offer help?

For All Flesh Must be Eaten and Paranoia I was just using character
sheets I found online...but this is a little different so I don't
think
I can cheat like that.

Anyway. let me know if you don't get it and have any tips for the
newbie,

and Lena, Human Resources types aren't "allowed" to talk to anybody
like human beings.
Sorry for your disappointment!

Yay! I got your character e-mail. Good stuff! I'll send you back something.

Everyone else, if you'd be able to get your characters finished, or
mostly finished, and send me a character sheet, or some notes, or a
background, or that survey I wrote, or all of the above, before
Friday, that would be great!

Good to hear. Did you have a finished character yet?

Lena

Well, I've got my character all written up statwise, and mostly
thought-out fluffwise, but when I looked through the "short"
questionnaire, I really wasn't able to answer a significant number of
questions- I don't really write a novel about each character; I keep
it vague enough that I can throw in ideas when they pop up. So
basically, the character looks pretty well thought-out until I try to
fill in a form.
Woo, abstraction.

Oh, and I just remembered a houserule I used during creation that I
forgot was a houserule. There's a bit of an overlap in skill lists
sometimes, and I always ruled that you can use that overlap to get a
free Skill Specialization.
This needs an example to make any sense.
Clerics get training in Religion plus three other skills from the
Cleric Skill List. Religion is one of the few skills on that list-
when I was teaching a new player the game, he chose religion again, to
be SUPERreligious! and I thought, "hey, that's a good idea."
So, for a Cleric that picks Religion as one of their optional skills,
or a Rogue that picks Stealth or Thievery, etc. - You get skill
Specialization in that skill, because Training doesn't stack.

There's really not much of a reason for the double-posting of certain
skills- if it was put in because of the skill training Multiclassing
gives.. well, that doesn't make sense, because there is only one class
that automatically gains a specific skill while multiclassing into it
gives you a choice from their list.

Okay, that was slightly long, but the point is, should I move a couple
skills around so that it's not using the above houserule, or do you
agree with it?

I think there was something else I was going to type, but I forgot.

Do you have room for one more in Eliterrama?  I realize the other Steve was also interested...
You can call me Trollz or Wild if you like to differentiate the two Steves.

I'm looking at running a Fey Warlock, Beast Ranger, or possibly some other class that is an Alchemist.

I do however have a conflict for the 19th.  Don't know if that would prevent me from joining your fray.

I think it's looking like...

Tim - Fighter
Lena - Cleric
Kyler - Paladin
Chad - Rogue
Dawn - Warlock

I'm not sure that I want to bring on a sixth player at this point,
though. I know that I said I was going to have each group be six
people, but I've got six in the other group, and some folks have
complained that it's a bit too big. I don't entirely disagree.

I HATE to turn people away who want to game, though. But for the
moment, I think I'm going to have to grimace and call the group
tentatively closed. If one or more of the people listed above don't
work out, for whatever reason, or if everyone in the group says they
wouldn't mind a sixth PC after we've played once, then I'll come back
to the recruitment table. (And as far as I can tell, Steve Watkins
would be at the top of that list currently.)

Sorry to disappoint anyone who didn't get into either group. It seems
that there are more than enough players interested in these games that
a number of you could form up another group without me.

That sounds fine. The skill specialization is okay with me, too, if
that's what you want to do.

You still playing an elf cleric with a greataxe?

Good stuff, thanks Kyler.

I'm thinking we might make an exception on the "no handmaidens and
concubines" rule, though. Just to be fair, you know.

Yup, still playing an elven greataxe cleric. Though there's a chance
that'll be incredibly gimpy, and I'll have to retrain into falchion or
rapier. But until it frustrates me, gimpiness be damned!

Also, I was very disappointed about the "no handmaidens or concubines"
rule. Now I have to learn how to roll my own dice.. I might be a bit
late getting there. These things take practice.

Any interest in moving the game to Saturday?

Fridays are doable but rough for me since I have 6 hours of class
beforehand, and of course traffic is craptastic. On a Saturday I can
probably give Lena a ride, since even being out of my way, its all
freeway and on a Saturday shouldn't be that bad.

Thoughts?

Josiah

Actually, Tm and I have been discussing how we wanted to change the
scheduling for this game, and Saturday was what seemed most ideal to
us, as well. Earlier, too. So that even if folks had to take a bus
home, the buses would still be running.

Also, we're talking a lot about moving both of my games to a bi-weekly
model rather than weekly. This would give everyone some days off to
do other things with their Saturday/Sunday, which I think would make
it easier and more likely that everyone could definitely make it to
the games.

Basically, my thought was to alternate groups each week, running
Eliterrama every other Saturday, and Wicketude every other Sunday.

This also frees up more of my time to start running some quick RPGA
games, on a case-by-case basis for whomever wants to play in them,
either here at home or out at one of the game stores/coffee shops.

If everyone in both groups lived close to one another, and had no
scheduling restrictions, and everyone could just play whenever, then
I'd absolutely love to run both groups every week. But as it is, it
seems like that's going to be an ongoing struggle given the wide
variety of availability conflicts and transportation issues which this
collective of players has to deal with.

But this isn't a proclamation, it's only a proposal at this point. I
want to know what everything thinks, what will work best for you, and
so forth.

I LOVE the idea of a bi-weekly game (that's what my weds game is), and
Saturday works good for me as long as we are done by 4:00 p.m. (or I
can just duck out at 4:00 if you are not done).

Chad, I'd be willing to take turns with you running Lena home as well.

Cool! It sounds like everyone is on-board for this idea so far. We
just need to hear from Kyler, and it'll be set.

It's really nice of you to offer to give Lena rides home, too. This

I think instead of planning on every other week, we should just plan
on trying to play 2-3 times a month. If someone has something going on
Saturday, then we skip that week, if not, we play. The problem with
trying to set it at every other week is that if we need to cancel one
week on short notice, we could end up not playing for nearly a month.
Some times we'll play twice in a row, some times we'll have off twice
in a row, but overall I think it evens out. Plus if the other group is
alternating when it plays it affords some flexibility that if someone
is busy Saturday, and we're all free Sunday, we might be able to play
then.

If Dawn has to leave at 4, are we looking at a 10am start time then?

bi weekly saturdays sounds like a wonderful idea
i'm definitely on board for that
although it might be impossible at this point for me to

Okay, so here's what I think I'll do. Each week, I'll check in with
all of the players in both groups, and see who is available for which
day and what times that upcoming weekend. If only one of the two
groups is fully available, I'll run their game that weekend. If both
are, I'll run the game for the group that didn't play last time.

This weekend, I'm running for Team Wicketude, so no game for
Eliterrama this weekend.

And next weekend is the Living Forgotten Realms Mini-Con at Enchanted
Grounds.

With the sessions spaced so far apart, we'll likely need reminders of the events of the last session. Maybe we could videotape it all, and have Sandra make it into a cliff-notes-music-video with the soundtrack to 'Alexander'. Epic, I tell you. We'll all be crying into our dice pouches.

Oh, and for future reference, my Sundays are all wide open, and on Saturdays I currently have class from 9am to 2pm. Weekdays I'm at work until 2pm and should be asleep by 7 or 8.
