It's not D&D, but it is a good way to meet each other and have fun.
Sundays really aren't the preferred day for James, Matt, and myself.
Saturdays are the day we normally get together.

The Lakewood Board game day is at Atlanta Bread Company near Alameda
and Wadsworth on the last Sunday of the month. The main group meets
from 2pm to 7pm, but if there are enough people interested sometimes
we start at 10:45am.

I do not think this is the right place to be advertising your event.
As this is a Google Group for D&D. Perhaps you should visit Meetup to
do this.

No, it's okay. These are some guys I was talking to about maybe
playing D&D with. I advertised my game in their group, actually. I
appreciate the invite, and the idea of getting together if for no
other reason than to allow some of us to meet each other and maybe
discuss some options is a good one.

I'll see if I can make it to the game day. Sounds fun!

Will you guys be meeting on the 30th this month, with the holiday
weekend?

Sorry, I should have mentioned it was to be able to meet each other in
a gaming environment...

James, John, Matt and myself (Steve) have been playing board games and
have come extremely close to what D&D was in 3.5 with the game Tomb,
and Decent. It was our frustration with Decent (a D&D like board game
where it's the Overlord [read evil leader/kind of GM] game to lose
i.e. on average the overlord gains 1.5 on average for every 1
experience of the PCs.)
4th edition seems to be a whole new beast for D&D, but one the four of
us were going to try. James likes and is certified to run Living
Forgotten Realms games. I've played off and on (including PBeM) D&D
1st through 3.5 ed. John hasn't played D&D since 1st ed, and I'm
uncertain of Matt's gaming past with D&D. We all play board games
regularly and seem to prefer to get together on Saturdays but we'll
work out a flexible schedule once we get a solid group together.

I've always wanted to try Descent. It looks really cool. Expensive,
though...

And Tomb is similar to it, no?

I'd love to play some of those games.

My friend that owns Descent said that the Road to Legend balanced the
game better, but it's still unbalanced. I'd hate to try it without
that expansion. I'd guess the PCs would get constantly slaughtered.

Tomb is a RPG-lite game where there are multiple crypts that each get
so many cards that can be either treasure, traps, or monsters ... all
of which are placed by the players playing the games. So everyone
knows some of what is in some of the tombs, but not everything. Each
player selects members for their crew (up to 5, unless a special
exception). Clerics get prayer cards, Wizards get spell cards.
Players, when they feel they have enough in their crew, head out to
explore the different tombs. Traps hit first, then monsters attack,
and if there is any treasure is given to the player. The goal is to
finished the game with the most experience points on trap, monster,
and treasure cards.

Yes, the 30th is still in the meetup.com calendar. At least 3 are
committed to being there on Sunday starting at 10:45am. More are
always welcome.
This is a restaurant/bakery so 90% at least buy a small drink (free
refills!) so we don't wear out our welcome.
I invite all that were interested in forming D&D groups so we can meet
in a non-personal location. (Sorry about the 23rd, by the time I read
about it in the digest it was too late.) It's a very easy location to
get to by bus, set the trip planner for "Lakewood Commons". We'll be
at Atlanta Bread Company which is on the north side of the shopping
area. Go up the stairs (or around and up the parking area to a
walkway between two buildings. It's on the other side of the grassy
area w/ trees. (head for the eagle bronze.)

While the main reason we get together is for boardgames ... feel free
to bring your D&D stuff.
