Hi folks. I'm so glad you stopped by to show your interest in my
upcoming D&D games which I've been working so hard to prepare. Let me
give you a bit of information on what, exactly, I have planned.
I'm going to run two games, to start with. The first game will be
simpler, less serious, less heavily-story-intensive, with a lot less
preparation time and customization of the world and the rules. This
game will be a standard 4th edition Forgotten Realms campaign,
starting at 1st level with ordinary characters. The name of this
first campaign is New Wine, Old Wineskins. (Bonus points if you can
tell me the reference I'm making there!)
The first sessions of New Wine, Old Wineskins will start as soon as I
have four to six players who are ready and available to play, with a
set date which everyone can commit to. Characters must be pre-made
before the campaign will start. See the "New Wine, Old Wineskins –
Introduction and Character Creation Guidelines" page in the Proscenium
for all of the relevant details.
The theoretical concept here is that a previously determined group of
my friends are going to be the ones playing in this/these game/s.
Tim, Jimmy, Rich, Brad, and Suzanne are all invited and have expressed
interest in playing. So, if those people are all still in, then
they're going to be the group. However, as soon as I get this little
group site up and stocked with the information and content which I
want to have in place, I'm going to be advertising and actively trying
to recruit other local players using every means that the Internet
offers.
Depending on what happens, I might be running more than one game, or
have a slightly-larger-than-playable group of gamers in one campaign,
with a certain flexibility as to who is actually there each session.
I don't mind some people only playing part of the time, and not being
able to make it on other occasions. I'm fine with having seven or
eight people signed on, and then just running the sessions with any
three to six of them who show up that time.
I'd love to run a game, or more than one game, for my friends. But
that assumes that their level of interest and availability is real and
not hypothetical. Either way, I'm going to find people to run these
campaigns with. So sign up if you're interested, and if not, then no
big deal.
So anyway, after I start the New Wine, Old Wineskins game, and it's
been running for a little bit, I'm going to start my bigger, more
serious, "main" campaign, which is called Penumbra: On Tenebrous
Wings. This is going to be very story-based, and I'm doing a lot of
custom work on the game, the lore, the world, and the rules for this
campaign. I'm not going to rush this one. Mostly, the point of the
first game is to allow us to go ahead and play some 4E D&D while we
would otherwise be waiting for me to unveil the Penumbra game, and
also to give us all some time to get used to the new rules and
assumptions of 4E.
When I launch Penumbra, it might be with the exact same players as New
Wine, or it might include one or more different players. As for
scheduling, it is likely that we will alternate the games from session
to session, depending on how prepared I am, what everyone wants to do,
and who can show up. If I have different players, and any cross-over
players can do so, I may run both games each week. But we'll see.
Ultimately, how and when I run these game sessions will depend on the
schedules of my players. I'll work around YOUR availability, because
I want you to be there and I don't want to make anyone miss out on a
game that they want to be involved in.
So, to recap, the standard Forgotten Realms campaign, New Wine, Old
Wineskins, will be starting SOON. Like, as soon as I have enough
confirmed players and they've sent me their characters. The more
personalized game, Penumbra: On Tenebrous Wings, will start some time
later, most likely after the Holidays.
Play location is still a bit up in the air. The default assumption at
this point is that we'll be playing at Tim's condo, where I live as
well, which is right next to Wadsworth and Chatfield, in southwest
Littleton. However, there are also a couple of gaming stores which
are relatively close to here and which offer good accommodations for
tabletop gaming. So, I'm going to look into those a bit more, speak
with the managers of the establishments, and see if it might be more
beneficial for us to play at Enchanted Grounds or Bonnie Brae some, or
all, of the time.
In addition to all of this, I'm looking to get involved in some RPGA
play, as well. I've taken the Herald-level DM test, so I can function
as an event organizer and run sanctioned RPGA games. So, that's
another thing I'll be talking to the stores about, but I also need to
get in touch with the local RPGA folks here and see where I can plug
in. So that might translate to me running a 4-hour RPGA session every
other week or something, at a public place, as well. These would be
stand-alone and unrelated to my personal campaigns. But if anyone was
interested in participating in that sort of thing, you'd certainly be
welcome to.
I have heaps of free time, virtually no responsibilities, and I'm
REALLY excited about 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons, roleplaying,
the stories I want to tell and to co-create, the adventures I want to
bring to life with some fellow gamers, and just all of the cool stuff
that goes along with this hobby. So I'm here, I'm fired up, and I'm
doing this. If you want in on this action, just let me know.
Let's game!
