Tim and I are pretty sure we'd like to have this game on Friday
evenings. In fact, I'm willing to just go ahead and say that that's
when it's going to be.

The first session will most likely be Friday, December 12th, then.
(Friday the 5th is Tim's girlfriend's birthday, so no-go that night.)

Tim will be playing in that group for sure, and then after that, I'm
willing to take and run the game for whoever else can make it on
Friday nights. Anywhere from four to six players will be fine. I'll
start running it if I've got four confirmed Friday night players
available and interested (actually, three plus Tim), and then I'll
accommodate up to two others as well.

So if Tim, Kyler, and Chad are all in, then we need at least one more
before I'll declare the group a go, and I've got room for up to three
more.

Speak up if you can do Friday nights weekly and want to play.

Unless there's just a total dearth of additional players for this
group available, I'm going to restrict this for now to players who are
NOT in my first group. Except for Tim, of course.

I thought Team Eliterama was fuller than that (at least, Kontazler's
list had more names in it), but if there IS a slot or two open I am
pretty much always available Friday evenings (barring, of course, the
unforseen catastrophe). I'm also pretty flexible in that I'm
comfortable filling whatever role might be missing in a party, though
the only 4e classes I've actually played so far are rogue, paladin,
and wizard.

Well, that list was my proposed list, based on all of the people I thought might still be interested and available.

But since then, Lena has indicated that she's almost certainly moving to California in the immediate future, so she's probably out.

I haven't heard anything back from Dawn or Tiana since I posted that list, so I'm not sure what their status is.

So that's why I'm basically saying that I'll take whichever three to five people can make it on Friday nights.

The folks on that list would have first priority, still, but if they're not available during that time slot, then it's free game for whomever is.

Well, I still haven't received my stupid programming test (these
people take such long vacations!), but even if I do get the job, I
won't be leaving till the very end of December. So I'll be able to
show up for a whopping 1-3 sessions! Woohoo!

Cool.  Sounds good to me.  You're welcome to come and play a couple of times before you move, if you want to.  Can you do Friday evenings, or no?

We're probably going to kick it off on December 12th.

I'm in. I just need to know what to do for a character. I've been
working on fleshing out an Eladrin Rogue focused on languages and
skills, following the document you provided about region, background,
etc. I'll probably need someone more experienced at 4E to look it over
before we play to make sure I've done everything correctly.

Sounds good, Chad.  Just go ahead and use the guide and the resources I have posted here to help you, and you can use the Character Builder program I sent out as well.  If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!

That character builder is pretty damn awesome! Helluva lot better than
the 3E one they made.

I did get hung up on one thing though. Following this guide:
http://groups.google.com/group/josiah4e/web/new-wine-old-wineskins---introduction-and-character-creation-guidelines

the program doesn't allow me to chose a regional background AND an
adventurer background. When I check one and then try to check the
other, it unchecks the original. If I check and select one, and try to
check and select the other after, it removes the original one. Not
sure if we're house ruling that we can have both or the program is
just borked. Please advise.

One last thing, Eladrin's get the longsword proficiency, but virtually
all rogue abilities require the PC to use a crossbow, light blade, or
sling. Any chance I can use a longsword for these?

Hey Chad,

Yes, the program won't allow you to choose both types of background, as I don't think it was ever intended that characters use both of those background systems together.  I happen to like them both enough that I want to use them in conjunction.  Just choose one or the other in the builder, for now, and you can note the other in one of the fillable note/information fields, or keep track of it elsewhere for now.

As for using a longsword for Rogue attacks, normally that wouldn't be allowed, but the new Martial Power book has a feat in it available to Eladrin Rogues specifically which allows for this.  I've posted all of the relevant sections of that book here in the Athenaeum just now.  Look at the document called "4E Martial Power New Feats" and you'll find the feat that you'd need to take in order to do what you want.

Of course, the material from Martial Power is not in the Builder program, either, and won't be for a bit.  So you may have to do some out-of-the-program finagling and writing stuff down if you want to take that feat, or other stuff from the Martial Power book.

Er. Maybe. There could be some radical reorganization of the whole
gaming thing.

I need to talk to Boutros Boutros Ghali first.

So we're not playing this weekend then?

That's correct. In fact, I don't think we're playing this game, with
this group, again.
