Hi everyone!

Ready for this Sunday?😬
Here are the breakfast and lunch menus for Sunday, along with the instructions.

Jaewoo and Briana:
    • Reminder to pick up 5 dozen Shipley donuts (don't forget to fill out the reimbursement form and leave it in Jonathan Lee's mail box)
    • Have coffee and hot water ready by 8:15 AM and monitor/fill throughout the day.
    • Your HC is responsible for preparing/serving breakfast and attending the second service.
    • Join the rest of the HCs to serve and clean after the second service.

Breakfast : Bagels, Muffins, Uncrustables
6 boxes Uncrustables (No special instructions—just leave them out and they will thaw naturally)
1 box Bagels - Warm in oven, cut in half, and serve with cream cheese
1 box of muffins - Cut in half
1 box of bananas - cut in half
Drinks - 2 orange juice, 2 apple juice (in panty - put it on the ice), and water station

James, Jasmine, Jaemin and April:

Lunch: Char Siu pork (Chinese BBQ pork), Bok Choy, rice and oranges

Char Siu pork instruction:

  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F on the “bake” setting, and check the char siu every 10 minutes, adjusting the temperature as needed.

  2. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and transfer the marinated pork onto it. Roast for 25 minutes, keeping the oven at 475°F for the first 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 375°F. After 25 minutes, flip the pork and roast for another 15 minutes. Throughout the roasting time, check your char siu often (every 10 minutes) and reduce the temperature if it looks like it is burning.

  3. After 40 minutes of total roasting time, baste the pork(if there is any left over sauce), flip it, and baste the other side as well. Roast for a final 10 minutes.

  4. By now, the pork will have cooked for 50 minutes total. It should be cooked through and caramelized on top. Be sure not to walk away during this process, as the sweet char siu BBQ sauce can burn if left unattended.

  5. Remove the pork from the oven, transfer it to a hotel pan, cover it with foil, and keep it in the warmer.

Bok Choy instructions
  1. Add salt to the water and bring it to a boil. Once it's boiling, blanche the Bok Choy for about one to two minutes. Take them out with a strainer. Cool them down immediately in cold water. Then squeeze the water out of them. Slice the Bok Choy lengthwise into 4 pieces.

Rice instruction:

The rice cookers can make 25 cups, but it’s best to cook a little less. Cook 23 cups of rice using just under the 24-cup water line inside the pot. Make sure to soak the rice for about 20 minutes before cooking. Use the pitcher shown in the picture (which measures 23 cups) so you don’t have to count each cup. Drizzle a bit of olive oil on top to make it even better. 🙂
After the cooker switches to the warm setting, let the rice stand for a few minutes. Then mix/fluff the rice and transfer it into four serving trays. Keep them in the warmer, covered with foil, until ready to serve.

Per Google AI:
Adding olive oil to rice can offer several benefits, including enhanced flavor, texture, and potential health advantages. Olive oil can improve the taste and make the rice less sticky, while also contributing to a healthier profile by potentially reducing calorie absorption and increasing resistant starch

Orange cutting instruction:
Cut the fruit in half lengthwise, then slice each half into wedges. Place them in the clear acrylic pan on the top shelf, in front of the pantry.

James,

Sensok House Church(Jaewoo & Briana Cho) already picked the first Sunday, so you’ll need to take the last Sunday (12/28). If not, maybe you can ask them if they’re able to switch.

Hi Shepherds! Hope you guys had a good Thanksgiving and some good rest!

Mindy and I(Su) will be the Sunday Refreshment manager for December.

I'm still waiting on confirmations for which house church will be leading which Sunday refreshments this month. So far, only Jaewoo Cho's house church has responded with the leading date.

The leading house church will be in charge of breakfast for that Sunday. This includes bringing donuts, having the coffee ready, and preparing breakfast. That house church will also need to attend the second service and then come out afterward to help other house churches as the service ends.

Please reply when you can! If we don't hear back by Wednesday, we'll go ahead and assign the weeks so we can stay organized.

Thank you!

Su Lee

Because our HC will be traveling and not consistently available, we will be switching months with Jasmine’s HC, so they will be doing refreshments in December. Jasmine is copied here. Thank you everyone!

Lang, could you put our HC on the January schedule? Thank you!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Sincerely,

Mimi Chang Tan

Hi Jaemin and James Kwon,

Could you let us know how many people from your house churches will be in town? It seems like both our HC and Briana’s HC is very small. I’ve been asking around to see if another HC will switch with us since we are not consistently available, but it seems like everyone is traveling in Dec and not available to switch.

Sincerely,

Mimi Chang Tan

Hello Jaemin Huh, Jaewoo Cho, James Kwon, and James Tan,

This email is coming a couple of weeks late—thank you for your patience.

South Myanmar, Sensok, Jordan, and Thu Duc HCs are responsible for Sunday Refreshments in December. Please review the attached Sunday Refreshments Guidelines. The SR Manager will follow up with additional instructions. Please use the red and green tablecloths for the round tables.

Before shopping for Sunday Refreshments, please note these important items:

  1. Taxes will NOT be reimbursed.
Please use the attached tax exemption certificate when purchasing items for the church.

  2. Costco, Sam’s Club, Walmart & Restaurant Depot:
These stores only honor tax exemption when using an NLF membership card.
Please email li...@nlfhouston.org and la...@nlfhouston.org at least 48 hours in advance to schedule a time to pick up the card(s) from the Administration Office.
Office hours are listed below for planning purposes.

  3. Costco Pizzas:
You must use the NLF Costco membership card to attempt a tax waiver. Only the food court manager can approve it, and occasionally they may not accept the exemption.

  4. Dropping off groceries at church:
Please refer to the office hours below for the latest drop-off times.

Office Hours
Mon–Fri: 8 AM–5 PM
Sat: 7 AM–4 PM

Please forward this email and the attached PDF guidelines to your HC members to avoid confusion.

Shepherds, please remind the ladies in your HC to tie their hair back when preparing or cooking food.

Thank you for faithfully serving!
