Uncaught exception - ldap first entry

I have built a new server using ubuntu 22 and install the lamp stack on it, imported the database and copied the backed up files across eg config.php, database.php and email.php

it has AD login enabled on the old system using ldap and that works fine.

when i try on the new system i get:-

an uncaught exception was encountered.

Type: Type error

Message: ldap_first_entry(): argument #2 ($result) must be of type LDAP\Result, bool given
