Hello All: I met some of you in Vermont early June!

What is your opinion and experience with developing a Joomla site with Host who has no Cpanel?
Only FTP for security reasons?

Shameless plug, but....

Simplweb has no cpanel, its pure Joomla-as-a-service.

In fact, we have not FTP either... for security!

Barrie: loved your talk in june

Do you have an online tour of how you access/manage/override files?
I have FTP-ed and Cpanel/Filemanager-ed,  ... but what is the next option?

Hi Diane,

My host doesn't use Cpanel. As long as their control panel, whatever
it is, has some sort of file upload/management or FTP access you
should be fine.

That being said, 2 of my customers use hosts with cPanel and it is a
very nice easy interface. It has a lot of easy to use features,
especially if your not very familiar with servers.

If your just setting up the account now and have a choice I would
probably go with Cpanel. Mine is fine and works well, but Cpanel I've
found to be a nicer experience.

Regards,

Sandra

You can install any template, as all the override files are template-based.

So you test template overrides locally, and then upload through joomla.
What if your client has something in mind when its up and running,
Isnt it a little risky to change out your entire template when you are modifying one or two lines of code.

Most designers using SImplweb will do all that testing locally and
then re-install the finished version of a template.

Does the hosting company offer any type of control panel?
